Sculpted Rock Planting - Update

I like the lighter color of the "progression4" more then the dark one, but it most likely is because of the final protection layer spray of some sort.
Profession 4 darkness is more in the photo than in reality. I agree. If it gets too dark and deep in color, it looks contrived.

That is awesome. Very nice.

I am wondering how easy it is to move around. Do you know how much it weighs?

Funny you should ask! I actually pulled my lower back this weekend moving it around - and that was just sliding it back and forth on the bench. The rock itself is about 75 pounds. If you look closely you will see that the feet on the pot are not actually sitting on the bench. They are about 1/16" off the surface. I built up the bottom of the pot so that the weight of the rock is transferred directly. I was worried about cracking the pot. When I repot I am going to epoxy the bottom of the stone to the pot to disperse the weight. Then Ill be able to handle it better.

Thanks for your kind words!

Here's an update on the rock sculpture/planting. After allowing a season for the baby junipers to get established I did a little shaping to get the basic design going. I didn't want to remove a great deal of foliage at this point, just establish where the pads will be and the movement in the limbs. Ultimately, I have to get some jins worked in there, but that will take some more development and thought.

I really enjoy seeing a creation like this that can ellicit an instantaneous response from my memory banks!
Even if you have not seen something similar, you can "feel" the creative touch the author has added on the image from his "memory banks"....

Really sparks the imagination, and the spirit of adventure.....looks awesome!!

Thank you! You are very kind. I spent the past weekend at the lake and photographed rock formations on the shore. I hope to start another sculpting project this winter. Perhaps an upright forest planting on a craggy cliff.
