Really? That's so interesting!
Sounds like time for a roadtrip for you and your boy! Plenty of old deciduous woodlands stateside I'd assume?
Plenty, just not so much in this region. There are some very impressive aspen groves, but they are a phenomenon of their, and not like the mixed deciduous forests further East in the States. I spent much of my early childhood in Ohio, and that is a great example that's unfortunately a two week trip that we don't have time or money for. Here in Colorado, though, it's either too arid or too high altitude, so conifers dominate where there's not prairie or surface water.

The short heatwave broke last night, peaking at 36.3C / 99F which is really rare in my northern location.

Temps dropped by 16C (36 -> 20c) (~30F: 99 -> 68F) within half an hour, bringing along an inch of rain and enough wind to blow trees around in the garden.
Will hump out now to see what the total damage was to my trees; Just put a few things upright last night, need to fill up some pots and trim some broken branches.
