We canceled a weekend trip to Branson because they are expecting 6-8 inches of rain. We had a fishing guide planned to take our son fishing on Table Rock Lake and he was looking forward to trout fishing on Lake Tanycomo.:mad: According to the news this morning it will be the coldest Memorial Day weekend since 1984. So glad I put the trops out last weekend.

That's rough. Branson is one of my favorite tourist traps. Sorry your weekend plans are a bust.

Getting a good soaking, always exciting in the desert.

Unfortunately, I was trying to dry out a couple overwatered nanas. Hopefully I can rescue them from their caretaker.

We had a nice storm last night. Some wind, quite a bit of pea to marble sized hail (no damage from that at my house), about 1/2" of rain, and about 3 hours of lightning to fix atmospheric nitrogen for the plants. Everything was a deep green this morning, and crisp and clean. It seems like a good rain refreshes my very soul here in the desert.

Been wet and mild so far this year. Still lows in the 40s F/single digits C many nights a week, but highs mostly in the 70sF/20sC, and no more than a week without appreciable rain.
If it keeps up like this all summer we may 🤞 see some fireflies around here this summer for the first time in almost 20 years!

Beautiful day here today!
I had to be out of town yesterday three hours away in Lubbock. Drove through rain for 2 hours of the return trip. Went through one town minutes after a significant flash flood. Brand new rebuilt highway couldn't handle the 4" of rain in 45 minutes. All traffic from both directions was sharing the turn lane ,and the water was still touching the undercarriages.

I don't know if a trash barrel is an accurate rain gauge, but there was 3" in the bottom of mine when I got home. Apparently, we had a "land spout" in/near town before we got back.
Land spouts are tornadoes that form from the ground up to the clouds due to differing wind currents. "Typical" tornadoes are caused by thunderstorms, where cool, moist air moves over warm, dry air, and the cool air finds a "thin spot" in the warm air, essentially forming a drain, like an air whirlpool.
I haven't heard of any damage, but the video my coworker showed me makes it look a lot more like a "real" tornado instead of a land spout tornado.

Sorry I haven't been updating here.
Weather has been status quo or unremarkable.
Actually been a fantastic Spring, and don't get notifications on the thread so less apt to update.

High temps been 60s to 70sF which is fantastic.
Rainfall normal to a little above normal.
Lows low 40s to mid 60s in the last 10 days.

Todays storms include rotation in the atmosphere with tornado warningS in Southern WV. This weather system is ushering in Summer.
Unusually dry week after the flash flood watches today and highs around 90°F a couple of days next week.

Cloud cover was 100% earlier with half the current visibility.

Leatherback is correct.
We finally get some warm weather tomorrow but just for two days. What a crock.

I also have an app called Aurora that notifies me if there is a chance of seeing the Aurora borealis so it's more of a solar weather situation. Unfortunately it's cloudy.
