Shimpaku air layer

I have this nice Shimpaku and I want to get rid of the branch on the right. It has such a nice pad of foliage on it I did not want to just remove it. Would it be ok to do an air layer now. I just repotted the tree about 5 weeks ago. I do not want to risk anything happening to this tree. Any advice would be welcome. Thanks.
