Sorce pots

Our man Sorce graciously sent me a couple of his pots.

I can only say "Wow! Nice work."

Even though he has only been working for a very short time as a bonsai potter, his knowledge of bonsai and what how pots interact with trees shines through in his containers' construction and sensitivity. Nice designs, nice clay choices--and both are rectangles... a rarity among new bonsai potters who usually make round pots that look like baking dishes with holes.

The glaze on one Sorce sent along to me is not one of those "HEY LOOK AT ME, I'M SPECIAL" concoctions that some "bonsai" potters favor these days, but is subtle and has some soul.

The pots are actually functional--which small pots often aren't-- attention to detail-drain holes and slots to keep tie down wires out of the way (!). I thought the "snaky" feet on the glazed rectangle were a particularly innovative, creative detail that I haven't seen before.

I have found that all this is NOT a common thing for bonsai potters who haven't actually done bonsai. I've spent time with some potters in person hoping to show them that they can't just do what they want and add drainage holes to it. It's frustrating. Sorce is anything but.

I hope Sorce continues down the road he's on. We need more bonsai potters with a clue about actual bonsai and how they work and with the passion he brings to his effort.

Way to go man!
I love the pot in the sorce2 picture. Now I have to add it to my bonsai bucket list to own a sorce pot like that one. Looks really good! @sorce how much for one like that!?

We first must move away from all traditional prepping methods, as it is too limiting.
Is this helpful?
I could do more.
I disagree. I would stick to (or at a minimum, include) traditional prepping methods because they work.
Is this helpful?
You could do fewer. And less. All that scratching around on the bottom of the pot is too busy. :p

@jriddell88 ... The Sorcemission Process is easy and I want it to be the most valuable way to get the right pot for your tree.

PM me. Email some pics. Give me a rough size requirement. Color etc. Hell, you gotta fattie root you know is great to tie to, lemme know its position, so we can further make it more convenient to tie down.

I'll keep you updated with pics on new forms, and when it's the one, its the one.

No upfront charge. Always a fair price.

Ugh, I totally slept on a little accent pot with an elongated lip this past week and lost the auction. I was going to place a last minute bid and got preoccupied.

Bro...Karma story....
The gentleman who won it...
I think he felt $16 was too low.
So when he saw a late request about the pot, he asked me if I wanted to sell it to that person...
Well, that person did buy it, and that person is here! How happy was I!
Y'all are great!

I bet Rock won't sell it!

I think "like" is a few degrees too close, always one of a kind!

Around $30-$35?

Is this helpful?

Absolutely! I may have went too headlong into this "standard"....but the practice has been helpful.
With only the 3 times I have potted an actual tree, I have always had an issue either, seeing wires, not having a hole in the right spot, etc...
Of course...I'm kinda way on the end of not damaging roots, and...what else...
Dunno, somehow, it has sucked for me each time.
Truthfully, no matter how many videos I watch etc...I'm pretty sure I just suck at repotting! Too worried about the roots!

Everytime I repot though, I go slow because of what you said about "you don't have to rush, you can leave the tree out of soil for lomgwr than you expect".

I think I can save time only using these holes when necessary.

Thanks Bro!

Lomgwr... speak English BVF!

This is what I like , make a pot for certain tree,
Sure it may outgrow it one day , maybe when I’m dead :D the holes don’t bother me really , gives you plenty of options for tie down I like the recessed actually , I don’t like seeing wires under the pot , although if wired properly you shouldn’t anyway , I guess its just your attention to detail that impresses me , you will only get better ! It’s your passion, it’s obvious you are extremely passionate about the art , group moaned about something like “we wouldn’t be doing Bonsai if weren’t all passionate “ or some nonsense , well idk but I can tell your very serious it’s obvious I don’t see that with everyone , back to the custom pot thing , we’re American we want more , bigger and better lol:cool: , I don’t want to stick all my trees in Japanese clay, I want to support my brothers here and use our soil here , especially that KY mud

Can you send pictures in pm’s ?

With specks of light blue.

The Temmoku glaze is meant to chunk up, but this one pinged a bit upon removal, and than hours later too!

Seems to have settled down now, and should be fine, but I may test it for s&g!

Sorce

This glaze reminds me of a rock covered with lichen. Would be a good pot for a tree styled to look like it is on a mountain or cliff.

Hahahaha that’s hilarious , I did the same thing for about a month , only to use the Bonsai auction sites , I said fuck it , shits getting too expensive here anyway , I’ll just grow my own ha

Plus I didn’t want all these fools from years ago wanting to befriend me , I wasn’t there to make friends just get new trees and pots :D

Another word...

Facebook Closed my Account ...I think cuz my real name isn't Sorce Beats....

Or cuz Of the Alias Michael Ponder account I had for collecting....

If Facebook doesn't fix this...

I'm going Back to MySpace!

Shit! That explains why all your posts in our messenger convo were bleeped out. It said they were either abusive or spam! Waaaah Sorce is abusing me by selling a pot! Facebook are wankers. My Messenger acct was also hacked and sent spam to many friends. It’s barely worth keeping open.

@jriddell88 How happy was I!

And I as well! Thanks for selling me that!
