Well, I have entered into an elite group. I had a plant sitting on the front porch bench that was desirable enough for somebody to steal! It was just a portulacaria afra, but it was old and big, with a thick trunk and developed canopy. And it was in a good looking pot so most out there would've considered it bonsai.

I hate that it is gone, but at least somebody thinks I do good work! :o

Congratulations!?!? :p

I am glad you are keeping your humor but sad you lost a tree.

im sorry.:( i would have raged!!
post a pic, so that when the SOB tries to sell it to one of us we can steal it back for you.

I've kept my collection on the front patio. never had one stolen. congratulations lady. obviously you do good work! :)

I actually have had quite a few Bonsai "walk away" ! Some I wonder why the hell would they take that one when the others are much nicer, I guess you never know what people are thinking. Sounds like you lost a nice one, that's a shame. I feel no matter what they are, once I have put time and effort into them I get attached to them and hate to see them stolen, hell I would probably have given some of them away if they would have asked.

Does anybody bother with security of any kind?

i keep mine in the back yard. out of sight. i also dont advertise what i have. that goes for anything i own. i noticed the last time i went to portland nursery that they actually chain some of their pricey big trees by the trunk! as ugly as that is, its tempting. better than losing it to a jack a$$.
im about to put another security light back there too. Having my girlfriends car get stolen right out of our driveway last summer has made me extra paranoid.
i feel for anyone that has had this happen to them. getting pissed just writing this..

Actually, I had a plant sale 2 weekends ago. We had a lot of people here in the yard that I don't know, so I imagine that one of them saw this tree in my porch and just came back last night to get it. I've never had anything stolen before now, so I was very suprised this morning. There were bikes out front, and lots of other plants and trees they could choose from . Whoever it was just wanted this tree. Oh well. At least its hard to kill it!

Is there a pic. in case some clown tries to sell it??

I still don't know how to do pictures on the computer. With any luck,
I will at least have a smart phone I can do pictures with sometime this year.
Doesn't matter really. Some Dauphin Island yahoo has it, never to be seen again.
I will be checking ebay though!

Ouch! That's bueno

Should be "That's no bueno"..

And it really isn't. Sorry to hear about your tree being stolen.. Not to long ago my teacher had beutiful trident maple for sale for $4500. I noticed it was gone one day and was speaking to him one day and mentioned I noticed he had sold the tree. With the saddest face he said it had been stolen in the middle of the night. I know it hurt and I don't think it was so much about what it was worth monetarily but it had sentimental value as well. He showed me pictures of it and explained how he had owned for over 20 years and how it had been a bonsai for 30 years before that... It was an awesome tree and some @/$&/@ just had to steal it..

Gotta hate those guys...

Throw a road block up on DI bridge and search all the cars! Sorry to hear about it, I'll tell the guys at the club meeting tonight, you never know. I'm in Mobile, club is the Azalea City Bonsai Society.

i've noticed video surveillance has become more popular in the recent years. a friend of mine uses it just on his car.

i had a small juniper and a willow taken from my front porch. i guess whoever it was didn't like the elm. you really do put a lot of faith in humanity when you leave valuable plants out like that.

Get a cheap trail cam. A buddy in my office is using one now to see who is stealing packages off his front door step.

If any of my sticks in pots were worth anything I would have a hidden trail cam watching them.

They shoot pics or video, and are motion detected.

Unfortunately in my neighborhood any unlocked cars are invitations for people to enter and steal. I have left my car doors unlocked twice in the last 3-4 years and both times the glove box has been emptied onto the floor, my ipod and GPS are gone.
I'll be setting the bastards up next week...

after my girlfriends car got stolen, i spent a great deal of money on a night vision system.
it was supposed to record on motion, as well as set off an alarm inside
the motion detect at night is garbage on all systems i can find.. ive looked everywhere..
bugs will set it off constantly!
regardless, its better than not having one. theiving bastards!!!!!!!!!!:mad::mad:

Video surveillance is not that expensive anymore - even the color HD ones that you can set up to call you and stream live video to your phone or PC... and you can get lots of little signs saying "this area under video surveillance" that you can put on fences, doors, etc. That and motion sensor lighting and two dogs, and you are pretty covered.

Not too many people want to hassle with getting lit up at night and having HD cameras pointed at them as they commit Grand Theft. :)

That sucks , but you get my congrats too.:(

Here my security, doesn't look like much, but when he goes into attack mode, he scares even me, and I am not afraid of dogs.
