I think when I get a collection worth stealing I will have motion activated flood lights and boards with nails sticking up on the ground at the entrances (go V.C. on them). Cameras seem good only if you want a picture of someone stealing your trees.

going V.C. with boobytraps can result in your being sued successfully by an intruder. I'm no lawyer, but there is substantial legal precedent against setting traps for burglars. There is also the side issue of such things affecting non-burglars, like kids and animals.

Not being a bleeding heart, just practical. And FWIW a picture of who is stealing yor stuff is very potent evidence for police. Our homeowners association submitted video and pics of vandals in our neighborhood to police. They followed up and caught the kids responsible in a few weeks.
 
I agree with Rockm. Get the evidence but do not make yourself the bad guy. Setting traps reflects very bad on you...even here in TX where we can legally shoot a thief.
