I’m excited to see what people find this year. I hope a ton of B-Nuts will get in the mix.

I think Rules are pretty much the exact same as the last go around.

Here’s the main criteria/ Guidelines to follow.

1-original Tree/plant should be initially Potted or packaged, showing its intent as a retail, holiday special of sorts.

* Personally, I’m not concerned about whether or not it’s decorated to look like a Christmas tree In the end.

2-Untouched picture of plant in its original state. Which will be posted with one’s original entry thread.
Please label entry thread like this:

Name’s 2023-2026 little Christmas tree entry.

-3 Update pics/ development on your thread now till .. let’s say December 31st.

-Tree can be purchased at a later date, but should still be one sold for the holidays. (for example, next Christmas).
If you think you can do a tree with less time, than go for it!

*species of plant? = whatever you can find specific for the holidays.

I’ll put up another cedar grow box for the winner. Maybe we can drum up some other treats as well. 😊

Just a suggestion @Eckhoffw , when I took over the last Little Christmas Tree Contest, we ran into some problems having the contest end in Dec., winter for most of the contestants. Trees were put away for the winter and some were not ready for a final repot the Spring/Summer prior, so I switched the end date to April of the following year so that there was a better chance for a nice final photo in a good pot.

Makes sense.
Thanks! I’ll post up an end date change.

So quick question. I bought a Dwarf Alberta Spruce - AKA, Mini Christmas Tree - at HD a couple weeks ago for 15 bucks. I did an initial styling a few days later, but won't be repotting for a couple months from now at least.

Seeing as I already purchased the tree before this thread began, am I still eligible?

That’s fine as long as you have a pic before any work was done. 👍
I see that you do. So yeah, eligible as far as I’m concerned.

Should we post our entry in this thread? Or will this become a subforum like some other contests and we each post our own progress threads inside that?

Please post your own entry thread.
Contest guidelines shown here. Thanks.

Nice! Now just start your own contest thread. This thread will only serve as general contest communication or rules questions Thank you!

Before I enter I want to make sure I'm establishing correctly; just picked up a holly using my "christmas tree credit" that I have at work. It isnt packaged in a festive way but was part of a shipment of "live christmas trees" hence why I was able to use my credit on it. Is it all good to compete?20231213_093817.jpg

👍
Sure!

I know I stated that I wanted to see the holiday packaging, but that is more because I don’t want to see a bunch of non-holiday relevant purchases without pics of original plant at purchase.

So I went looking at the box stores for a red pot; very slim pickings. Nothing at all at Lowes, but I did come home with a cheap s-shaped tigerbark ficus... 😁

I did get a black hills spruce from a local nursery for 30% off but not sure it counts. They were by the Christmas trees, but they've had them all year. I think they were the only potted trees still out (probably to sucker the Christmas crowd).

Sounds good man. It seems a lot of people have had a hard time finding Christmas decoration plants/trees this year.
No worries, if you get it around the holidays and have a pic of it untouched, then all is good.

I'm going to try another HD Monday - they often have quite a different selection than the closest one.

Anyone tried Walmart to see if they have red pots?

Here's the black hills:

We picked up this awesome Picea glauca ‘Conica’, a dwarf Alberta spruce. The plan is to use it as a living Christmas tree for years to come (I’m already taking care of 20 potted trees, whats one more?) as we don’t have space for a full sized tree, and the a living tree sounds fun. Perhaps when we buy a home someday in the distant future, we’ll plant it in the ground.

It will get pruned to provide some space for decorations, and repotted in the spring, but I don’t think it will get the full bonsai treatment—instead my goal is to keep it very much looking like a Christmas tree.

I suppose I may start a thread, because hey, who knows, it may become a bonsai, just a very symmetric, conical, “boring” one. It’s already got a killer trunk!
