Might as well flood the zone. This Flying Dragon can be had, too. Make offer!

Hey there! Not to be the tree thread police, but if you read the original post, your supposed to add a pic of your trees(in any stage), to any comments you post to this thread. FYI

@TN_Jim , forsoothe knows, he’s just being forsoothe. 🤷🏼‍♂️
derp, I knew that!

Here's a ficus, bonus pics with her sister for scale.

Going to let it be for a while, but the upper trunk has some inverse taper that will be pretty obvious if the lower shoots are wired down or removed and there are some knobs on the lower trunk that will probably also need to be removed. The roots will likely also need some work. I'm thinking the trunk issues would be good to fix first.

I'll find another tree to settle my debts

How is this species for bonsai? I've been curious about them for sentimental reasons if nothing else. The street I grew up on was Barberry Drive.
I have seen some nice ones around . You don’t often see large berberis bonsai because they tend to grow in clumps rather than with a trunk . The autumn colour can be spectacular and they have beautiful tiny flowers . They back bud on old wood to the point that is annoying and can be a little difficult to ramifiy .They make great shohin .

Japanese Black Pine , moving along in development. Fall maintenance, minor cut back, thin needles, wire out. This tree was one of the ones I purchased from Telperion Farms in 2015 to develop. I was interested in the trunk, started from there. Will be repotting into an actual Bonsai pot this coming spring as I continue to work towards refinement and compaction.IMG_1589.JPG

Kishu Juniper, love the trunk on this one, taking my time with Shari, small amounts to begin with and joining sections to create interest! Feel like I have reduced the branching and compacted fairly well to begin pad development. Pot size will decrease over time as refinement proceeds. Using a larger pot to maintain healthy growth during shari development and pad formation.IMG_1542.JPG

In honour of the new NHL franchise from Seattle! View the Krakken! Well it may take some imagination. It is from the wild and appears as if it could be a serpent of sorts!
Actually simply a Yellow cedar Yamadori from Vancouver Island developed by an Oilers Fan.IMG_1578.JPG

You increase density of canopies via the same process as reducing the leaves, -defoliating by cutting off all the leaves at the base of the leaf leaving the petiole in place to guard the new bud in its axil and removing the leader bud on each twig. I do that the 3rd week in June in my 6b zone weather.

The alternative method is to hedge trim in late August (my time) removing every tip leader bud. (The Walter Pall method)

A trident maple I just trimmed back for the first time since we have headed out of winter… the canopy is starting to fill in nicely, will be looking to reduce leaf size once I get a bit more density.

Nice tree! Looks good with the pot. Tridents go very red in autumn so I think this will be great.

An olive tree I have been chasing back for 7 years:

I owe a picture or two, so here's a new project: a scale model of a tree!
