Tree / Bonsai drawings / sketches

Lets see some drawings of trees (large and small, not just bonsai!) including designs, computer drawn - whatever you've done and would like to share!

The idea isn't for design feedback etc, more a gallery/scrapbook.

I did these last week while on holiday, totally imaginary trees, black fineliner (two thicknesses on the one with flowers).

Thanks for a mention BNut. But I normally only draw small, quick, thumbnail sketches , which are not very impressive to show. They are very rough sketches. I don't spend too much time on them. I do think new bonsai students should always draw out their future trees first, or learn how to draw first. It is a good habit.

Here's a sketch of a juniper I am thinking about starting soon. It is going to be a root-on-rock- raft style forest. I drew it a bit bigger and more detailed than usual in order to show the idea here. But normally, my working sketches are only about 2-3 inches tall.

I have this BC that I got a chance to pull from a yard for free a few years ago. It was the hottest day of the year and despite my efforts it died...or so I thought. The next spring I get 2 new trunks growing on opposite sides of the base. Now I think I want to make the trunk look like it was hit by lightning. Drawing out your plans is a great idea I will use more. Here is what I came up with. What do you think?

Not a bad overall plan, the main suggestion I would offer is to make one new trunk larger and taller than the other.

If I block out one of the growing trunks in your virt, I love it, but I don't like the idea of keeping both trunks. I would prune back, or jin, or eventually hollow out of the the trunk and go with just one or the other.

I honestly can't decide and was hoping for more opinions. I can make any of the 3 trunks as tall or short as I want. I kind of like the symmetry of this look and it is the natural way it grew after the main trunk died. There is plenty of time to decide and thanks for the input.

This is a rather poor example of a tree sketch, but it is fun for another reason. It is a relatively close sketch of a red bud tree existing in a landscape design I am working on. I sketched it and through photo shop, created a sketch up component that I could use in a 3d model of the site. Now when I open the 3-d model of the site, the clients see their actual tree in the model as opposed to generic warehouse stock!! the cross is a custom component too!

Ditto. You don't want two apexes competing with one another. Looks too much like an old guy raising his arms in anger. Personally I'd pick one side arm, and go from there. You might even consider layering one, and having two BCs. I love how quickly these trees grow. Goodluck and good drawing!
