Any thoughts on why it didnt take?
Probably just a late collection thing combined with an up and down winter. I dont have a space I can properly recover something like this so I set it and hoped. The fact the other one may live makes me happy. The whole plot was redeveloped - they would have been mulch anyway.

I have another few ive got feelers on which might be even better than these and which I think may make it if collected before the summer solstice.

I collected 3 Field Elms that were root connected from a garden clearance. Bad timing really, kept putting it off. The local council has been running over the sucker for a while. Ive watered them in, bagged them up and put in deep shade. Will mist once a week.
I topped up the surfaces on these with wet sphagnum moss, gave them a mist.

This photo is a couple days apart, note the buds on left branch which weren't so visible only on Tuesday 20250515_182200.jpg

I just stumbled across what seems to be a giant kishu juniper in the public planter strip. The growth that isn't runners is as dense as a head of broccoli! Since it's a public "street tree" that just gets hedge pruned every year I will have no reservations about taking some (or many) cuttings.

Building a new addition and redoing the old section of the wind house, the solexx has gotten dirty so time to just redo everything. Just got the framing and part of the new coroplast on the new part, will add the sliding door panels to the new side. Rebuilding all benching, will be wood framed with large format tile for the tops.

Ms. Judy.... what happen to moving to Colorado? Are you still pursuing that endeavor?

I was wondering the same thing.
Long story - but short version is that parent care over the past 6 years sort of took over our lives. They are both passed now, but we decided that at this point we are better off just staying here. Lots of issues with building out there and would take a couple years at the least. We don’t really enjoy smoke season, and I worry about water out there as well. So we sold the land and used the proceeds to update our house here 2 years ago, and it’s really great. We still travel out west a couple times a year.
