Opted up rooted burgundy queen bougie cuttings from the mother plant reduction.
The thickest one had really nice radial roots, the mig thickness had long close up roots - set it up for exposed root maybe, the thinnest one I was going to toss, but did not have the heart...

Been having a rough two weeks. Last week I went to setup a video call with a friend that lives out of state only to find out that she passed away while I was on my social media hiatus 😢

Went camping this weekend with my family

While I was camping I found out one of my bonsai friends passed away. We had his celebration of life today at the Lynden Bonsai Collection. His wife brought some of his bonsai trees.

For those of you that live in the northern tier, seeing the trees transition in fall is probably just ho hum for you, but for us southern guys and gals, to see it happen is still a thing of beauty. I’ve been stuck here in northern Virginia for a month now with a broken leg with nothing to do but watch the trees from the back balcony start their change from growth to sleep. I’m amazed at how fast (compared to down south) it happens. I’m headed back to Florida this week, but almost want to stay a little longer to see all the color changes. There is a cherry tree right behind my daughter’s house that is already leafless for its winter sleep. Being partial to maples, I’ve been watching a large Acer Rubrum start its change to red. Guess I will never stop being amazed at how trees can live in one spot for hundreds of years, endure everything nature can throw at them and still keep going. Is a thing of beauty.

Few years ago I bought this fir. It is grafted and had ugly inverse taper below graft. I tried to make two vertical cuts and wrapped it with moss to see if it helps somehow. If so I will do more cuts next season. Anyway, today I did second styling on this tree. First photo is as I bought it and second is from today.

I believe that is a horse chestnut, black walnut doesnt have the pokies, and don't have a pod that opens up.

Edit: just reallized he posted a black walnut in his tree and you were poking fun. 🤦‍♂️

Photo tax, monarch butterfly that was on one of our rose bushes yesterday.
