I don't think this threat stops people from doing the progression threads for their individual trees.
Same here. I still update my progression threads, because I want an easy way to track what I'm doing.

I like this thread because is helps me see what kind of work people are doing seasonally.

Spent last last few days trying to figure out why I keep finding cut branches of my S Maple shade tree. Clean 45* degree cuts from high in the tree. Whacha think it is?

Squirrels? I have tons of them. More of a why/how come every morning half dozen or more will be there.

Repotted my Olive..removed all the organic medium... carried it one handedly to my garden hose without thought to give it a good rinse. 💪 Now...I do have a home gym...and workout 7 days a week. But that still caught me off guard...and I was pretty stoked when I realized it. 😏

It is in larger medium Aoki and pumice now.

I totally understand where @Shogun610 is coming from. The progression threads, done right, are the real jewels of this site. I lurked here for a long time before I ever posted, simply admiring and learning from the decades of work some of the more experienced members have documented. But on the flip side, I think a lot of progression threads are posted a bit prematurely. It is hard to have a ton of discussion on trees just starting their journey. Whether that be a seedling, a stump, a stick in a pot, or a recent air layer. I would encourage people to have a bit of time documented with a tree before they start a progression thread. That way there is more to talk about :)

I do think there is a place for both. It can be intimidating to put your trees up to the scrutiny of the internet. I know I am victim to this. It is far less intimidating to post my work here then in a thread dedicated to it. That being said, I will make an honest effort to post some progressions.

For photo tax, here is a Dawn Redwood I am working on between meetings this week:

There is a place for both. Sometimes I make a quick post in this thread just to refer to it later in the progression thread for the tree.

I love the long term progression threads, they give more perspective, and show goals being met than random photos. As much as I love this thread, I feel like everyone stopped progression threads other than a handful of folks, and all i see is those random I did this today photos. So I guess I agree with @Shogun610

Speaking of random photos, here's my photo tax. I unwired some of this year's elms and hornbeams that I wired 2-3 weeks ago before they hardened off. Holding form well. (Bottom couple branches are sacrificial so I didnt wire them) they are all starting to push a third round of ramification already, gotta love a long spring.
I love the progression threads as well, especially when an experienced member has them. I can see what you mean about some threads suffering, but I don't fully agree that this thread is harming the site. (I know you didn't say that) It's all perspective to me, & I'm just looking for any info I can find. I normally click on "newest posts" when I arrive at this site, and I see new content all the time. Another reason I don't have a lot of progression threads is my experience level. 3rd Level Noob Dork only gets me so far. 🤣

PIX tax... let me reach into my bag and find...

Not technically today, but .. first day really back on the forum.
I did some major carving, grafting and ensuring I did not get rootrot on one of the two main supporting lower trunks. Now no bending of the limb for 3 weeks, ensuring the graft takes, after which training will start again, to get back to full strength in 6-12 weeks.

Yup. Ripped meniscus, 181inch internal tumor, small facture repair and all over cleanup. 3 hrs (expected was 45 mins). I should have been back at work, and only yesterday was told I could stop laying on my back with my legs raised...

At least the weather is nice.

Oh geesh! That was a lot going on there...a tumor as well. Truly hope your outcome is worth a celebration my friend. I'll definitely keep ya in my prayers. Just listen to the doctors...and get better. Keep us updated, please.

Yup. Well.. There better be. Been on serious pain med since easterweekend.
I found myself easter sunday in emergency ward of the hospital because I did not know which direction to move from the pain.

Truly hope your outcome is worth a celebration my friend
We'll see. realistic chance the growth returns. They cannot give me the medications needs to suppress the growth now as my meniscus needs all the support in healing (slow/poor healing tissue at the best of time). So the call was: Meniscus is more important. If it comes back, we will deal with is properly then. Ah well. Today I went out on my crutches and watered 75% of my trees myself, resting chair in the middle of them. Steady does is.
The rest I cannot get to :)

Spent the whole weekend talking about trees with other tree people. I got a lot of feedback and opinions on the three trees I brought to the workshop today. Wired so much yesterday and today that my neck and shoulder hurt. I have some fine wiring to finish up this week.

I had a great time, I got to see many of my friends. Wish I had more time to talk to Jennifer Price. The only thing I ever wanted as a kid was for there to be more women artists in bonsai.

Are you familiar with Marija Hajdic? She's done a lot of great work in the bonsai space...

Just to much to take in...truly. I'm glad its been sorted...as best can be. So you can move forward.

Watering trees...I find therapeutic. I hope through it all...they offer you that while you water them.

Yes, we had Marija Hajdic at ABS 2002 but I didn't have enough money to take a class at that time. Kinda crazy I had to be in bonsai for 23 years before I took a class offered by a bonsai artist that happened to be the same gender as me.
