I would like to buy a small ficus for a tree who's final size would be under 6" as small as possible. I am looking for something that someone would be willing to part with for cheap. I can't afford much. I can only go up to $15 right now. So I am pretty much asking for anything that you just don't want anymore or that you could not use for a larger tree. Yes I am that poor.. lol

you could go check out your local big box store lowes homedepot etc and buy a ficus there

Also check Walmart, they have Mallsai ficus for around $10.00. Your budget is hardly enough to cover shipping if you buy online.

I have checked all the big box stores in my local area and 4 wallmarts. Nothing except big braided ficus.

You could buy one of those braided ficuses and start some cuttings from it. I've done some myself, and with ficuses it's really easy. You could also try air layering a larger pieces off the top to get a better start on a bonsai.

I think that most "big" Florida nurseries will have pre-bonsai Ficus for $15 that are WAY better than trying your luck at Home Depot. That's typically the price for the smallest size on their shelves. Those would help you get to having a shohin size tree years before starting from scratch. I'm not sure how much shipping will add, but I think it would be worth saving up for a little while longer.

Durastone : http://jimsmithbonsai.com/Contact.htm (don't pay attention to their web-site. they have lots of pre-bonsai stuff too)

Dragon Tree : http://dragontreebonsainursery.com/

Wigerts : http://wigertsbonsai.com/store/inde...ath=66&zenid=abad003f63d5e0d76930c2e21a9d0ec7

I would give them a call and see what they can do for you. Good luck.

edit: & of course once you get one, you can easily have lots more next year from cuttings, layers, etc. So, starting with a cheap Green Island Ficus gets you lots of potential material, rather than some benjamina from Walmart.

I was at Walmart yesterday and noticed they have a lot of Ginseng Ficus grafted with what looks like Green Island (Green Isle). The roots are massive and as much as 6" side to side. They are about 11" from soil level and descent enough IMHO for the asking $13.00.

I have a smaller one that I plan on chopping just below the graft line but leaving enough of the roots to have a descent sized base flare and "nebari"
