I'm no expert at all, so I'm not going to try and ID it. But my memory says that fat needles tend to be hemlock.

Definitely looks like a spruce to me, but I have little knowledge of that realm. Either Picea glauca, Picea mariana, or Picea rubens. Hemlock needles grow more like a dawn redwood or bald cypress.

How long on rock? Has basic makings for Literati;).

Definitely a Picea, spruce. which species is impossible to say. If it is your tree, @BonsaiSniper - give us some history, to narrow down the possibilities. There are at least 20 or more species of spruce with short needles that could make this image. If it is not your tree, Picea, or spruce will have to do.

If it were mine, I would take all the wire off, and start over.

If it is yours, let us know, perhaps one of us will get inspired and do a virtual design for you.

IF it is not yours, I won't bother making a virtual for a hypothetical tree.

This tree was collected a year ago by me, high up In the Rocky Mountains. It was growing in a rock and was above the tree line if that helps any. Oh and yes it’s mine.

Can you be more specific as to the location where it was collected? That would help in identification.

re styling: you want to keep the lines simple. Don’t cross back in front or behind the main trunk line with your branches unless you’re intending on making a bold statement!

generally, even with literati, you only want to have 2 branches at each intersection. Even with a literati, it should look like a spruce, which generally form pads of foliage that cascade down.

Think: simplicity, clean lines.

I have a collected Black Hills spruce and Co. spruce both of which were collected in CO. They back bud very well and they are not young.

If this tree were mine I would feed strongly this year and next and maybe you can do a little cutback in the fall of 2021 to stimulate backbudding.
