yew collecting

I was wondering what season is best to collect a yew. I have a very small undergrown yew that needs to be out in more sun since the rhodis have swallowed all of the light. Pruning these back is not a option here so the yew will go in to a pot to begin training and trunking. (larger pot obviously) It is about 18 inches tall and 1/2 inch trunk its been there a few years now and has not done much in the 5 years it has been planted in open ground. So when can i look at collecting up this guy ?? I want the optiaml season or time to do this since it has already stressed for light.

Collect when the buds are just beginning to swell...late March for you, I guess. That is a relatively small tree and you shouldn't have any difficulty.
