I still get the heebie-jeebies about root pruning older established pine bonsai. I'd like to get opinions about the quality of the technique demonstrated in this root pruning/repotting video. Could more root have been taken off without endangering the tree? Could the guy have just
sawed off the bottom half of the root ball?

Looks fairly conservative to me, although they didn't show the starting point before removing old soil and initial trimming of roots.

With established trees, as long as it doesn’t have rotten roots, water can percolate through the center, and the angle/depth is set, there isn’t a good reason to get super aggressive with root removal. Nice tree, good demo.

You have to rewind the video to the beginning.
