Set up 108 gallon saltwater aquarium. Not bonsai related but, I did it today. The tank is 300 lbs by its self.
I like the buzz of aquascaping, had a cool tank for a while until a certain chocolate catfish turned it into a rock scene. 😢

Grow tent with shelves are set up, water trays cleaned and sterilized. (I use Physan 20 to treat my water trays before the final rinse) More lights ordered.

Putting my carnivores in here so I don't have to worry about disrupting the orders to my local plant shop if I bring any pests in with my bonsai trees. Hopefully I will have time to move and label the rest tomorrow.

I also had an issue with my pinguicula getting too cold and going dormant last year and this holds a good amount of heat.

We have a frost warning so all my tropicals are in the greenhouse or shed. Hoping the outdoor venus flytraps can start being moved inside tomorrow. Once my ficus pass quarantine they'll go on the bottom shelf.
I have too many plants.

I that a Red Sea tank with AI Lights? Nice set up..I had the same set up and sold everything when I got in to Bonsai...Dont have time for both lol..

After going to the swap meet in Encino, I dropped by my teacher's house.

We discussed some yamadori he planned on sharing with me. A california juniper he collected himself several years ago ( the first tree) and another CJ collected by Frank Goya ( the second tree). I can't really decide on which to take home, but likely the Goya tree since it's small enough to fit in my current garden space. I plan on bringing it home by the end of this year.

I have had Saltwater tanks for 15 years. This is just an upgrade from the 90 gallon in the kitchen. It is moving into the 108 in garage so my wife has more room. I also have a 300 gallon on the back porch that is going to have to move, for home improvements everything is moving into the 108 in the garage for now. All rock is from Fuji and needs to be recured after all these years, lots of work due to High nitrates and cant get them down any longer with water changes. Yours is nice though.

Found a chunk of free time today and spent it rewiring and adjusting a Bristlecone. It’s grown exceptionally well this year and has an abundance of backbudding set for next year’s progression.

hi @IzzyG Sorry if you have been asked before but I am wondering if you can tell us the camera/lighting setup you use for these kinds of pictures. What kind of lense and lights do you use? These pictures look amazing! Thanks

This particular Sierra got severely damaged at Mirai during the intense heat wave a couple years back. After a year of letting the tree recover, it still looked pretty weak/leggy and Ryan decided to put it on the nutritional testing/protocol. Since then, the tree has gone bonkers on growth as well as backbudding. After this season’s rebound, we decided that it was time to put it on the path of its former glory. Adjusted the styling with the new growth and left it with a little more foliage than normal.

Pre heat damage:

Rebounding and pictured here in July 2024:

Pruned slightly(this was about a 33% foliage reduction) and adjusted. The defining branch will be moved further to the right as it gains more strength:

Heyo! It’s just a DSLR with one softbox on a black background. Specifically, I use a Sony Alpha 1, a Profoto B1X and Godox lantern softbox.

My old man and I participated in a bonsai workshop put on by Steve Iwaki yesterday. Mine is without wire. I ended up breaking a couple of my main features when starting to wire it and needed to revisit it with a fresh perspective. I'm pretty excited about our Colorado Blue Spruce!
