I needed some Trident Maples and Japanese Maples to plant out and for some forest material.

Back in August I went to a lecture slash demo that Matt Ouwinga did for the Austin, Texas Bonsai Club. It was a fantastic presentation. If your club is looking for a great speaker then you will be very happy with the presentation this guy has put together.

I bought some seedlings from Matt Ouwinga who is the owner of kaedebonsai-en (www.kaedebonsai.com) and here are a couple of pictures. I did not pull out the best ones...What I am showing is a general representation of what I recieved at a great price. Healthy seedlings with nice root systems grown for bonsai at a great price. I am very happy with my purchase.

Good luck with the trees, looks like you are hooking up with the right people!

On another note, typing the word slash seems a little over the top, doesn't it? I mean, since you have a slash on your keyboard? Just a little? Hmmm?:D

"A slash or stroke, /, is a punctuation mark. It is also called an oblique, diagonal, separatrix, virgule, scratch comma, slant, or forward slash. It appears similar to a solidus or shilling mark, which is a separate character.

The most common use is to replace the hyphen or en dash to make clear a strong joint between words or phrases, such as "the Hemingway/Faulkner generation". Yet very often it is used to represent the concept or, especially in instruction books."

I just thought it could generate an interesting discussion...(or not...) :)

Emil, Son, you are spending way too much time with your face in a book/or online!
Get up and go find some Yamadori!

I have been to a few "lecture slash demos" in my time. And by slash I mean as in to cut something with a sweeping motion. You know, hack and slash?

(Debate the subject, not the author :p )
I would if it didn't look like this outside. 1' of snow, and then some...But hey, it's soon May, right???

I didn't choose it, I was born here :)

I guess it has it's beauty, like where you all live would be beautiful to me. As for the photo, I just got up from my chair and snapped one through the window.

One funny thing is that the photo basically covers 90% of the species of trees available here, spruce (abies) , pine (sylvestris), and birch (pendula). There, now you've practically been to northern Sweden :)

...and sorry for the shameless thread-hijacking...

Thanks dude, the photo totally made my day. It's 81 degrees F here and I'm in a tee shirt. You are in Sweden? Cool. My grandfather was from Sweden and immigrated to Minnesota before having children. I have always wanted to visit one day.

Thanks again!

Don't rub it in!!! :)

I made some research the other day and found out that I live in zone 3b according to the USDA-system. The average annual temperature is +1 celsius (33 F)...

There were A LOT of Swedes immigrating to America during the 19th century. There's a really good movie about it called "Utvandrarna" or "The Emigrants" in english (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0067919/). If you haven't seen it you should.
