MIRAI YATSUBUSA ELM

Thank you, Sergio, for sharing this tree with the world. Seeing it in person was incredible.
It really is one of those iconic monster trees with a presence that pictures will never be able to convey. Its placement in the show is serendipitous… Or deliberate I suppose… staring up into its complex canopy is an experience I’ve never had at a bonsai show before.

Was wondering how heavy this tree was myself. Wondering how many it takes to move and or repot 🤷‍♂️

I helped Sergio put felt pads on the bottom of the pot and to get it into place in the exhibition hall, so I can attest firsthand that you are not wrong
Ugh, but well done helping out a bonsai friend!

We use hydraulic carts with heavy plywood extender boards at PBM, but you still have to slide the big trees over and lift before sliding a teflon furniture mover under them.

Cheers

I wasn't able to see this tree in person, but it sure looks every bit of the majestic image I imagine it is. I do wish that it were in a space with a background as seeing it out in the open doesn't do it justice as far as I can see. Maybe different in person, but I would expect it would have been even more impactful in a more traditional space.

Thank you! It was stressful to some degree transporting this tree but happy I was able to show it. The bark is very fragile and every time the truck hit a bump I prayed pieces of it would come off. Thankfully and surprisingly none did!! 😮‍💨

I heard the “complaint” from the owners of the very large ficus positioned to the left of this elm that the elm made their otherwise mighty tree look a bit small.😆

That was a very nice and BIG tree from Michael Levin.

Thanks Dave. Always great to see you and catching up with you. Wished we had more time to hang around. I was very happy where Bill decided to place it even without being in its own space.

The only tree in the show that was not able to be photograph because it could not fit through the photo studio doors. So that was a shame. It may not appear at all in the commemorative book 😭

Three different people approached me to purchase the tree. One offer came from Longwood Gardens. That one I may be very interested in as I can see this tree being part of a public collection. It's got the wow factor that most museums look for. I declined it for now as I am not ready to part with the tree.
