Bonsai Nut Spring Box Store Challenge

So the exclusion of conifers was a positive to this rookie idiot. But what do I know?

Was that a question, eliciting a response?? Really; I do try to be respectful of people, even those who, from their behavior, seem to not deserve it.

LOL some peeps can fight over anything! I am drooling over what I could enter for $50 at a nursery... You guys should see the haul I just made of 5gal shrubs for $4 each.

The USDA has found excessive exposure to Mugo Pine sap to alter ones state of mind, causes bipolar, schizophrenia, and banninmeitus.

Maybe we should allow ostriches at the race track, allow 50 year olds to write an essay on why their Mom is the best, and allow untrained deaf and blind folks to participate in Olympic shooting events.

Vance, no need to act like your nickname is Morning!
I still get a kick out of it though! (Even if this one makes absolutely no sense to me) So stay out from under the rock!

I thought 7 pages was a lot, who'd a thunk it was cuz of a silly argument!

It's only silly when it's not your ox that is being gored.

I understand. Hell. I don't think I'll be able to get something by then either.
And. Lack of conifers does make it a lot more difficult. But that is the "challenge" .

Maybe it's just time for steak!

A vegan would have to" step outside their comfort zone", but they wouldn't starve!

Box store. Not Ox Gore!

So still no coniferous trees?
How about a Chinese elm. They are considered evergreens in some parts of the world.

I have no idea what you guys are talking about, but I would like to participate. I like group events and maybe I can learn something....

Currently I am hosting a koi group buy/grow out, with participants throughout the southeast. My project, my rules. One of which was I won't ship, so anyone wanting to participate would have to pick up from me or I offered to deliver to a large koi show in Orlando in March. I had others that wanted to participate, but I refused because of shipping.

Hope this gets off the ground (pun intended) and I will support wherever I can. Heck, half the plants you guys find up north, I don't find around here.

Let's do it!

Yardmadori

Does it have to be purchased material or can yardmadori be included? I have a variegated pieris japonica I have been looking at getting rid of. It is evergreen.

By the very title of the challenge, obviously found, and or dug material would not be included. And would not be a fair entry against the "box store" purchases.

What if I told you I have been storing it in a box? No? A $50 Box? No.

But I'm good with the Pieris part,..right?

I told you and everybody that I was going to resist this and believe what I say. If this set of rules stands you have a non-contest. What's the matter qwade;? are you afraid of conifers? Think about it. It takes far longer to make a good bonsai from a conifer than almost anything else. If the same parameters apply I am willing to follow them to the letter. You don't understand my angst??? What don't you understand? A contest is either open to all or it is open to none. If you did not write this stupid meaningless rule where is your angst from? I suspect I have been doing bonsai longer than you have been going to the toilet by yourself.

Vance, the last challenge was almost all junipers if I remember correctly. This rule distinction is for variety's sake. And, after all, this is just for fun. It's not Noelanders...

I am looking forward to trying for this challenge. Here in Denver I hope to have a selection of species to work with by march.

Appreciate your moving this to March. Spoke with the other closer nursery to me...they won't even uncover or get into their trees in February...March yes. They only have red blooming azaleas...suggested I also look around to see if others are opening their doors yet. Mentioned one nursery that never closed...lost some plants the year before to wind chill. So they have everything closed up as well for winter this year. Is a first in all the years they can remember. She only knew...because in December they were looking for plants to fill an order...and they a much larger nursery were wintering their stock...and closed for business when they tried to get some off of them.
