Sea Green Juniper

Well me either but im still a newbie so what do i know.

I understand. I was just trying to make easy on the situatuon, but you are correct.

Big storage hamper/bin like you get at wally-world for around 5 bucks;
drill the hell out of the bottom; lift tree from pot and pot up/plant
it in the hamper with enough new dirt to fill hamper/bin. All nursery
stock root balls relax when planted in ample soil. Took two years for
a 3 gallon boxwood to loosen a bit but I had NO problem combing all
its roots out when I did the re-pot. I know it had been in the 3gl. for 5
years; was like a rock when I slip potted it into a larger pot--5 gallon--and voila.
Easy peasy.

Basically the same as a grow box witg fine screen for drainage.

I do not know personally of how this species of Juniper reacts and grows. However; in my experience I am not usually a proponent of going backwards. If you are planting any tree into a larger container, unless you are looking to accelerate its growth and make the tree larger, you are working against your end game intentions of reducing the size of the tree. That's just my opinion etc.

I would like the trunk a little bit bigger, other than that, i just need to let it grow and see if i can get some budding to replace some branches that had died off, then start ramication on the branches. I feel this tree would benefit from a grow box. Just not as big as was suggested. Thanks for you input Vance. It is appericiated.

I have trouble with a sea green that i have were the mature foliage gets really long and stringy. Another one i cut back really hard and it only grew juvenile foliage the last year. I kind of like the juvenile foliage because its thicker.

Yeah I know, patience is the only way in Bonsai.

You know I know but I hope you know that was nothing other than I saw that movie recently ....

Diapers!

Smiley?:p

Sorce you know I consider you a friend, but sometimes you go off in these post that I have no idea what the heck you are talking about. I am sure others are left in the intellectual dust of theae posts as well. If your goal is to be cryptic and esoteric you are succeeding. Good job????

Don't cut those roots! If you do, you'll certainly risk killing it.

I'm not sure your research is completely accurate. Juniper chinensis 'Sea Green' can make decent bonsai. I've had one for a few years now but never seem to have the time to work it. I promised myself this coming spring I'm going to spend some time with it.

Here's a photo I took a few months after acquiring it. The canopy is much bigger now which is very counterproductive. Seems like I let it grow just long enough to take it all off again.

Hey Vin. Did you ever do a styling on this tree. It looks like it has a lot of potential. I would guess compacting it would be the challenge. I would be curious to see a pic if you've done some work on this tree.

Nothing yet. David Cutchin asked if he could work on it last year but he got so busy with other projects it got pushed back. I'm going to do some aggressive pruning this year on at least one of the branches I plan on keeping and I'll repot it next spring for sure. Thanks for asking.

Your not alone Vance! lol perhaps eccentric goofball trying to entertain himself & others & liven things up might be more accurate?

When you do please create a thread for it. I can usually get this variety here so I'll be curious to see how it responds & see if I can adapt it to my shorter growing season.
