So I picked up a Sea Green Juniper last year cause I liked the trunk movement. The foliage shoots are all super long and the foliage was not at all close to the trunk. I tried moving branches to try to compact it, but ended up removing most... even considered making it a literati. In the end, I guess I'm happy w/ the silhouette, but the foliage still concerns me.

Anyone worked w/a Sea Green before? What is the best way to manage the long shaggy foliage? Will it ever make proper pads or was this just a fun experiment?

Nice shape and its laid out well, if a little skimpy.

I believe in a balance between..
Pinching like we shouldn't, and cutting like we should, with good health...

That can make any juniper foliage useful.

Get to know yours.

Had one.
Tough shrub.
It will back bud and revert to juvenile foliage after cutting.

I have one that is similar. I also reduced mine similar to yours. The remaining foliage on your tree will get plenty of light now and will become healthier and easier to work with. Yes you should be able to make pads but not as full as other juniper types. Good luck.
