Gather firewood for the evening in shirtsleeves. Trees on northside enclosed porch. Decids defoliated, "Bulletproof " stuff (Pinus edulis, Quercus gambelli, Rhamnus frangula v. 'Aspenifolia') still outside, pots out of direct sun, 2 freezes so far this month. Like the man said, here we go again
I just got done moving a bunch of trees into my barn in advance of that nor'easter, which is predicted to produce a period of 40-50 mph sustained winds (with gusts to 65) late tonight and tomorrow morning. Lots of trees still with leaves and very wet ground could mean lots to clean up...
Gonna have to wait another month in Hong Kong perhaps? Then from the data I remember seeing, you get nights like 4-10C and days 13-20C I think.
As for here, it looks like we are finally going to get some extended, lasting late fall chill here, with a real, definitive end to the growing season next week. I went out for a bike ride last night and could still hear cricket and other insects chirping and most of the trees are still leafed out as well. Last fall to this point was much chillier but was still above average.
