Hurricane Florence

I understand that, but prayers are for the dead ones.

I don't believe "prayers" will ressuscitate them.

Of course I sympathize, I'd help if I could, i'd gladly do.

But "praying" when a disaster has occurred is a very poor answer to a problem that should be tackled in a different way : the earth is not flat, global warming is not only a natural phenomenon, it's caused by greed for the benefit of a handful. For how long for those who dig in the mines ? For how much profit for the con-men? For how long?

But I repeat : For Christ's sake, open your eyes! Can't you my American friends (or some of you) understand that the government you've elected is not only leading you to disaster (but not for the ones who "have").

It's just like "capital punishment" : those who have the capital won"t get the punishment.

And some will still vote for a pitiful sexist racist clown that says "Fake news!"?

What's that saying about the finger and the moon ?...
If you want to Trump-bash, I suggest starting another thread in the appropriate group. There are a lot of us who support Trump here.

PS: to some extent, I respect people who believe in a god (I used to), they were brainwashed from early childhood into that, whatever their religion. It always lead to massacres (want any examples, from bhuddists to various christian denominations to islam, etc. ?)

When "religion" makes you stupid, that's different.

I much prefer action to prayers, I live in the real world. I have values, not dogmas, I'm not a puppet manipulated by the strings of happily accepted ignorance.

I'm not "Trump-bashing", but I can see you're siding with him when I expose short-sighted, selfish visions of how a society could be run.

And I know that he will stay in place for the rest of his term. Then, you will look at what's next, whether he's got a second term or not : trouble.

For now, he's bought your soul, for you're short-sighted and he had you sign a contract the kind this business shark can make some poor innocents sign.

I don’t talk about your leaders, nor criticize how your people vote or not vote for that matter. Why do you feel a need to come to an American web site and plaster it with bullshit from someone who doesn’t even live here? Why not stick to posting crappy trees and leave the politics to those that know what their talking about. There are plenty of political and religious websites all over the net that you can share your ignorance with.

Agreed. Although everyone is certainly entitled to their own political/religious views, shouldn't this thread be about wishing those in the storm's path well, and hoping to hear they are OK?

Yes, and wishing people learn, not (only) pray.

What's the use of "mourning" when you refuse to understand how next time it can be avoided, or at least limited?

Nature can be cruel, and each one has their ways of conjuring disasters.

But when people refuse to aknowledge the evidence, especially for petty short-term benifits to their own selves - they're not cruel, they're criminals because it's not only about themselves, it(s about the whole mankind.

Everyone that has a modicum of common sense understands why this is happening on such a scale, and more and more frequently.

Anyone with an ounce of humanity will not wish that to happen anywhere.

Others are watching the disaster.

And then, they pray.

I don't pray, I just wish I could help for I'm in the real world. Take action instead of whining.

And if there was another "dimension", I'd rather stand before the door than kneel down to be pardonned.

The current government has NOTHING to do with what's currently happening on the eastern coast of the USA. While you're preaching from another part of the world, people are losing their homes, their belongings... their lives.... and it has NOTHING TO DO WITH POLITICS!!!!!!!!! Alain, please.... shut up for once! Fwiw, I didn't vote for Trump but I can't stomach your bullshit right now.

I would suggest you look up the statistics about hurricanes in the USA. It is easy to tell that your ignorance on the climate is about as good as your trees. For the life of me I would actually love to read on how you think climate change has made hurricanes worse when the statistics show over the last 40 years there have been fewer and they have been less intense. How do you explain that?

I agree this is not the appropriate thread, but I don’t see why he cannot say whatever he wants on an American website. The USA is, in many respects, a big country and the decisions and actions of North Americans influence the others around. Even those that do not live there. So yes, the ‘others’ are entitled to comment. If you want this forum to be restricted to USA citizens, do so!

Interestingly... just saw a climatologist on the tv saying exactly the opposite... the number of large hurricanes (+3) has increased recently.

At the moment there’s nothing here, although Helene is supposed to hit tonight.

What does the data say about the period between 2005 and 2011?

I don’t know. I didn’t check the data. Just a climatologist on tv who was asked to talk about the current situation with lots of hurricanes/typhoons around the globe. He said hurricanes need 2 things: a warm ocean and some special conditions in the stratosphere that I didn’t quite understand. The former is likely to increase with global warming but apparently we still know little about the latter... that’s more or less what he said.

Verified....TDS has reached France. I will be sure to plug that in with the other data points so in the future when people are denying it happened there will be a record.

@AlainK your belief is not required for my prayers......mine will suffice.

In my darkest hours, always comedy, dark as it may be. I've experienced tragedy, trust me.....

But I've been laughing and waiting on this one.....

I couldn’t figure out what was going on with this thread until I remembered that quite a while ago I blocked a low intellect troll. I guess he must have posted on this thread and got blocked. Life is good.
