Hurricane Florence

Save me the sanctimonious bullshit, please. Have you ever been to China? Saying that the Chinese are leading the way to "clean air" has got to be one of the most laughable things I've ever read on the internet. I live in the 6th largest metropolitan region in the USA and I'll take the air quality here over any place in China. I wasn't particularly happy either when we pulled out of the Paris Accord, but I doubt it will impact carbon emissions here and world wide significantly. Money will, though. When renewable/green energy becomes more affordable and accessible, it'll replace fossil fuels........ and we will still have devastating hurricanes and typhoons.
Exactly. In areas of China they literally have to wear masks to avoid choking on their filthy air. I'm in NYC and our air is clean.

And there's no reason that America should be apologizing to the world for anything.

If you read what I wrote..
China has taken the opposite approach and is focussing on getting rid of fossile-fuels, and is actually a global leader in the actions taken to reduce non-renewable energy use.

For the last couple of years China has made the biggest investment in createing renewable energy of all countries in the world.

@watchndsky , you good down there or what, my friend?

Cackalacky lookin' like it's right due for some destruction. Be safe!!!

very nice of you to ask - preciate that.

its been pretty quiet here in the triad. some wind, some rain - but nothing compared to what theyve had south and east of us. i think the rain might pick up a little more later tonite, but weve basically just had a breezy drizzle to this point.

my biggest threat has been this little fella that got into the house.

I couldn’t figure out what was going on with this thread until I remembered that quite a while ago I blocked a low intellect troll. I guess he must have posted on this thread and got blocked. Life is good.

had that exact same experience

howd this thread started off as a check on members/path of hurricane and then somehow turn into a trumpbashing/ US is the great satan etc ----- wtf?

not a single day goes by where the exact thing happens to me.
-conversation starts about something completely NON political.
-conversation is going fine
-conversation somehow dramatically and inexplicably veers toward a trump insult/accusation for absolutely no reason at all.

its not meaningful debates willingly entered into my two or more parties - just random tantrums.

in just the last 3 days
-convo about seti/radio bursts - 2 mins into it - trumpbashing comment
-convo about rainfall - comment that he has ruined the global climate (single handedly it seems)
-convo about fishing - yes fishing - comment that i wont be able to fish cause hes going to ruin our waterways
-convo about a local criminal case - out of nowhere a comment that at least the criminal didnt pay a pornstar for sex and then try to hide it

thats just the last 3 days. i dread talking to some longtime friends with because i never know when they are going to have another meltdown. i never know whats gonna trigger it - or how its gonna manifest - but i try to dodge all my liberal friends now. i was never even a supporter of trump but since i dont actively bash - somehow i am responsible for all the horrible sins he has committed that now threaten our very existence as a species.

people should be ashamed of the way they are acting but they dont have the time apparently. they are too busy being self righteous and morally superior to all the deplorable, racist, white privileged nationalists who arent educated enough to know that they should be calling for impeachment.

Despite our different views and political differences, I do hope that everyone is alright. And I do wish that everyone will come out of this with the least possible harm.

Send me some of that MAGAsil please.

Which species of snake is that?

And from the other side -

Weather conditions here have returned to - bucket a drop.
Thunder and Lightening and endless sky water.

The houses built illegally in the rice fields will flood and
the houses built where the drainage is overloaded with
too many rooftops [ and no rainwater collection ] will
flood.

Altogether, a field day for sensationalized News reporting.
Hand outs will be expected and life goes on.
Some parts of this were supposed to stay as Forest and
Agriculture.
Good Day

*Hey did you hear about the Earthquake 6,something
near Columbia/ Venezuela
Well the tremors were felt in Trinidad,

Tremors mind you.

But we had an earthquake --------- ha ha ha

Great News.

Interstate 40 east of Raleigh is under water in at least one place. I-95 is under water in 3 places. Northbound it is closed north of Lumberton. Many of the rivers still haven’t crested.

As the OP, I can’t believe how far off the road and into the ditch this thread has gone. I guess it is just my ignorance that leads me to believe people will stay relatively close to the original intent of the thread.
I must admit I just started reading and must have the same one on ignore. It was confusing...and ridiculous in my opinion when this was a checking in thread. The rabbit holes one faces...so off topic. Shaking my head. I don't have time for such off topic behavior...life is to hectic here...I just wanted to make sure ones fared okay.

Re: Mangkhut - I read that there are at least 25 dead in the Philippines, mostly due to mudslides, including a group of people that had taken refuge in a church; 17 injured in Hong Kong, but no deaths; 2 deaths in other provinces of China; 200+ injured in Macau. Oddly, the focus of the news stories I could find seemed to be the number of flights canceled as a result of Typhoon Mangkhut.

I heard 65 dead ?

We just had Helene, which faded into a normal storm, and now we have Joyce, supposed to be another ‘normal’ storm. Apart the rain, nothing special so far... and the forecast is sunny for the remainder of the week ;)
