Lemon + apple seeds

Hello everyone,

I have taken seeds from supermarket lemons and apples. I put the apple seeds in moist paper towels and in a zip lock bag in the fridge. They have a tiny white root poking out of the end now.

I did the same with the lemon seeds except I peeled the outer shell off them and put them in a warm place. They too have little roots poking out the end.

My question is how long do I wait before I plant them in soil in little pots?

Also, I plan to grow the lemon trees indoors and the apple outdoors, both as bonsai. Does this sound reasonable?

Thanks,

Des

Now would be good to plant them, but if you are in the northern hemisphere not so sure how they will do, there isn't enough light to sustain them well, unless you have set up indoor lights. I don't think the citrus will do well at all, lack of light and humidity will keep it weak.

Hi Spunog; welcome to the site!

Where are you located? (in general)

Hi,

I am in Ireland. Pretty temperate and damp a lot of the time. The roots of these seeds are just poking out so far so I'm not sure whether to plant them or not. Should I wait until the root is a couple of length's of the seed?

I have a conservatory, might that provide enough light for the citrus trees?

I found it very interesting that the apple seeds germinated in the cold so I am wondering whether they should be kept cold when planted in soil? outside maybe? I realise that its low risk as you can start over any time with new fruit seeds :) But Its nice to see things working.

Thanks for your advice :)
