Thank you. Probably wait till next spring, no?You can definetly remove those high roots, they are not a part of the true root system. As you mentioned, thuja put out roots in any collection of damp material. The root flare is clearly the lower section, and where this tree starts.
Yes. I think With time, the foliage can be tamed and flattened into respectable pads. It’s a challenge when the foliage likes to turn towards the sun on a vertical plane.I have never seen one of these as a bonsai. I do like the species though because of the soft foliage. I was under that it wouldn’t make a nice bonsai because of the enlarged foliage.
I guess it just needs to be a large tree.
I do see some pads in there.
