Yea I have to work on Friday this week to trying to get up there would be difficult. As much as I would have loved to be there, honestly it's not worth risking covid for me.

I thought the same about the winter show in a few months.

My boss and their whole family just covid a couple weeks ago. One of their kids got exposed at day care and brought it home. The parents are both vaccinated but they still got sick and felt pretty ill for a few days. The wife had to go to the hospital with breathing problems. She was treated and was able to go back home. All are recovered now but it was kind of scary.

Let's hope we can get this damn thing under control and not have to worry about it in 2 years.

I got tickets a while ago and am excited to attend as a relative newbie. Also bringing a friend hoping to get him into the hobby. Unfortunate to hear everyone wasn’t able to get tickets, but glad it’s still on this year. Looks like bill is doing what he can in the context of the state/local requirements, which are a moving target.
It looks like Sunday afternoon tickets are available online right now

What's the catch?

My display will be there, but unfortunately I will be missing it again. Wish I could make it this time, and hope it’s a huge success.
Sorry that I won't get to meet you (finally) but at least I'll get to see your display.

Hell, the trip to Bill's nursery to see the collections he has for sale there is worth the trip even if you don't get into the show. Don't know if you've paged down in his blog post, but those rough barked chinese elms are pretty damn nice...

It’s awesome, so glad it came together. I went to the show, hit the vendor area, spent time looking at the displays (I saw @JudyB and @Brian Van Fleet displays, at least I think it was Judy’s, I still have no idea who anyone is really)

then I went over to @William N. Valavanis ‘ nursery and bought an azalea with a dead top that needs love and reimagination. His wife was wonderful to meet and she gave me some great ideas for it. I’ll get it into kanuma in spring, I think it was already reported this year

then I went back and bought an Ikkou from a woman who said she was friends with him. She held it for me while I ran off to the ATM since no cards.

great show!

I had a chance to really look at every display in the show today, and I can say that I was amazed by some of them. The large trees were soooo big, it's hard to even imagine them. I loved the shohin displays, Gary Andes, and Mel Goldstein are outstanding shohin exhibitors...Adairs trees (esp the 5 needle grafted to lodgepole that I've been coveting) were outstanding. Brian Van Fleet had a super display, that ROR trident is cooooool. I enjoyed it very much sadly there were no photos allowed so I can't share with the forum. You learn so much by attending high end shows, and exhibits, that you can never learn any other way. So when you get the chance to get to one, do yourself a favor and go.

Goldstein always has nice shohin displays. He must have several hundred trees just in that size range...

Did Sara Raynor sell all her pots already? That usually happens pretty fast. Was there any decent akadama for sale at reasonable prices? I'm guessing there won't be any tomorrow afternoon.

The shohin displays were nuts

Quite a bit clicked into place looking at the displays with what I’ve learned over the past couple years. Like, I really need to learn apex design, anything about at all, apparently. And rethink everything else. It’s great!

I spent very little time in the sales area…

I feel this. I have yet to be at a high end show but am coveting this so much. I will absolutely be at the 2023 show. And hopefully the winter silhouette show next year.

I had almost literally nothing to do but bonsai for like two years lol

I think it’s bad ass. Love the addition of content from you on the site. We need more posts about trees on this forum. Too much other noise and nonsense sometimes.
