This tree was collected on my sister in laws land last winter, when I saw it I knew it was the one. I call it “True Love”, they are fused for life and will be together till death. Anywho I think it’s pretty sweet, it grew strong this spring. This summer I pruned and wired the structure I wanted and now the bones are set, just need some areas to grow, but If not I will thread graft. Enjoy!892B2232-A1CD-460C-B709-B9BAA5C03FC1.jpegC654A74F-0197-4A57-B202-3BED9416BCD9.jpeg3A8E7D03-7A84-4B44-948C-079425967F4D.jpeg4F3A7CE3-B3E8-46A8-82E6-D08D0725E315.jpegEEE599CF-2757-4417-9069-F9832B39383B.jpeg075562CA-1C5C-420B-97A0-D38FA486D69C.jpeg

I plan on doing some carving in the tops, plus this another one that will be going in a Dean Bulluck pot.

Man I hate caterpillars, they have destroyed a lot of growth. But it is shaping up, I’m going to try and graft some new branches next year. EA46D94F-CD88-4744-A1D4-3F7001ED1C5C.jpeg

Nice , try to fit in some carving up to develop taper.. look for some bonide organic sprays that can help against caterpillar infestation

Thanks for the tip, yeah my plan was to carve the top into a v shape for taper. Thanks

Nice material. I reckon on the left trunk, the shoot below on the left is in a better position for a leader, then you can do a sloping cut towards the back that can be obscured. looks like there is also three shoots on the right trunk you could do a V with those. if the blue is a rear shoot, looks like it.
proportions would be better

Thanks for the advice @BobbyLane, I love your hornbeams. This one definitely has a long way to go, as soon as I can get grafts going I can get a better feel for where it will go.

Did some carving, going to do some refining later after I get some better bits for the dremel. I have never carved before, I think it looks pretty decent so far. B2F32885-1EFE-4686-A58A-3105DD4EC79C.jpeg

Thank you @BobbyLane I will have to check that out, going next week to get some kutzall bits. I don’t have a die grinder so I’m just using what I have around the shop.

Unfortunately I think the smaller trunk is dead down the whole middle, but it will give some character.
