Another Mugo Restyle beginning

While I still have this thought in my mind for those who complain (rightly so it would seem) that you cannot find Mugos with single trunks. Take a close look at this tree in all of the included photos. You might notice that there are several scars around the trunk that are the remains of large branches now just memories. This tree in the beginning had a very broad base but it also had an abundance of lower branches that needed to be removed to create this single trunk image.

If I would have seen just the before I would have said how much I liked it. The newer images look much better with the changes, but I have a hard time explaining why. Maybe the Jin stubs help convey more age? The silhouette is better at the new ratio of bottom branch to height? I dunno, but I like it.

I am still not happy with it. Last night it rained heavy and I was not able to get my night shots but I got some early morning photos that are somewhat better than what I posted originally. This is my intended front but I am starting to think my jin might be in the way, at least part of it.

What is a front without a back? However; still I find my nemesis dogging me even now. I have a tendency to spend a lot of time designing a front to a tree and when I turn it around sometimes the back is better than the front???? Such may be the case with this tree.

I like the indentation (Uro almost?) on the current backside, but I don't like the angle that the first Jin sticks out from. Maybe spinning it a couple more degrees would alleviate it nothing wrong with the current front thought either, IMO.

I like your original front better. The jin on the back is too far forward from the rest of the tree...to me!! It becomes primary when it's in front, when it's on the back it becomes the secondary interest that it should be. The jin is not helping the composition right now because it is so fresh and new and sticks out like a sore thumb. With your original front all the flow heads gently to the left and the jin is screaming hey...look over here!! Which when it tones down a bit will be a subtle reminder to take in the whole composition, but for now is a needy Jr Higher demanding everyone look at them!!

I see why Graham Potter does his fire roasted technique on jin.

Relooking at your two sides, the other main reason I like your original front is that the branches on that side allow for a peek at the trunk, whereas the backside obscures the line of the trunk a bit too much, making it have less peacefulness about it.

What I like is that the branch length seems very appropriate for it's height. Has that been hard to get to or hard to maintain over the years?

Nice tree!!

I agree I guess I am just complaining, though I do see what needs to be fixed and I am disappointed about not getting those night shots last night.

I am not an expert but myself I would get rid of that jin - to me it looks out of place from all angles.

Vance I also like your original front better like others have mentioned. I like your redesign a lot although I do think that perhaps the tree looks a bit like it wants to fall over to the left at least to me. What about bringing the top third over to the right perhaps with a slight change of planting angle as well??

This tree is certainly improved from where it began. Also, this one has the best base of all the mugos I remember you posting.

Before I removed the jin, I'd consider placing more of the branch that conceals it now, behind it.

I finally accomplished the night shot photo I have been talking about. You can now see the trunk more clearly and the foliage the way it settles against the trunk line on the right side.

The first of July the candles will be eliminated causing an abundance of new buds to form. Next spring, if everything goes well with the new buds I plan on causing this summer, the ramification should be really nice.

Your wish is my comand though I still don't like the lighting and background.

Wow the Video gives a much better perspective. I went from liking the tree to loving it. Nice tree. Especially since it's a mugo.

It's amazing how much better it looks in the video, not that it looked bad at all in the pics.

Wow.. I can't say enough times how beautiful this tree is. Although it has probably been covered Vance. When you remove the candle,s are you twisting/pinching them off or cutting them off right above the base. I assume you are cutting them.
