Anti-Fiddle Techniques...

I came to a conclusion....
The only way I can leave a tree alone is to get another.....

It seems at least once a week I get that itch that needs a scratching....

So my plan....
When space allows....
52 trees.....One a week....mostly Junipers....but come Holiday season.....it'll be Spruce, box, or whatever conical "living Xmas tree" they are selling.

I think this will get me thru the entire cycle, at which time, I can go back to the first.
Hopefully by then I can add some good stuff too!

What are your Anti-fiddle techniques?

I had to get lots of trees to take care of. Theyre almost all pre bonsai but a couple are getting there. But with so many to take care of, I dont love any single one to death. Now I have so many that somehow a few get lost.. I think your right, the more you have, the harder to get crazy over just one.

My own way of dealing with dependencies: get a new one!

So in Winter: hockey and video games mainly,

As soon as winter is over: trees, yard, vegetables, collecting trees, collecting deadwood, collecting rocks, finding something else to do, I never sculpt! Must be fun to sculpt! Let's sculpt!
Taking care of the trees, taking care of the yard, harvesting the vegetables, cleaning the deadwood, rocks and so on to start thinking 'which tree will fit there'

Falls:
Trees
Football
Trees
Hockey
Trees
Superbowl without Bears,
Hockey
Video games.
Playoffs hockey - if the Habs are in, but oh well, even if they aren't -
Back to trees, yard, vegetable etc...

Ah yeah, and I have a job too. But who doesn't?...

Seriously though, having lotsa trees definitely protects them from too much attention; however, it works against you on the other end. I got behind on repotting this year because I had way too much crap!

Also, having a Portulacaria or two can really help your other trees, since they will always tolerate extra fiddling.

JBP get decandled in early summer

Then they get needles pulled and wired in fall.

Then repotted in late winter. (Maybe not every year!)

So that's three times.

Question: JBP is Japanese Black pine right? Is it ok to have one in zone 5(a I think?) or too cold for it?

Potted JBP need good winter protection in zone 5 but it shouldn't be too difficult to provide.

Man, I've been watering everyday for a month now. Soon I'll have to set up shade cloth, then it'll be 2, maybe 3 times a day, who knows? Lol, I hate the Desert.
