I grabbed a super dense Taxus from the local Depot, while I was supposed to be getting some light bulbs...
I went all Edward Scissorhands on it yesterday and today....I know mid autumn is best for this kind of work, but hey...why not, just for fun.
Going for a broken up old pine look, many jins...
The third pic is the apex.IMAG2389.jpg
I haven't touched it yet.
I wired up the rest of the tree, the apex is weird, figured I'd get some opinions....
What would you do with this apex?
Jin it like all the other trunks?
???

looks like fun, nice job so far. I would try and make a nice apex crown, it looks like there is enough green to make that happen instead of a top jin. I think the apex is the hardest part to get right, a lot of bends helps.

He apex is generally the hardest part for most trees. Get some wire on it. Make more of a gradual progression if branches point up instead of the all pointing out then pointing straight up at the top look you have going now...

Alrightythen...
Some wire on the apex, a couple minor adjustments in other spots...
Here's what I ended up with...
4 pics, front, back, side and side...
The aluminum tape on the bucket marks the front, for now....
What do you think?

Looks like you got that top under control, nice!

Aaron

i like the right side too as a front because the trunks are a little closer togetger and the two litle jins on the bottom look cool
same goes for the left side

curious about whats going on below the soil

but well done looking good !

I'm curious too, I dug down a little, can't see nebari yet.
But it is one single trunk just beneath the soil line....
So, we'll see....fingers crossed.

i know what you mean had the same problem with a Young Yew one of my First trees i tried to style thats when i learned to remove the soil First and a part of the top of the pot before to start haha

but still if it stays potted as deep as it is now it Will grow roots out of the trunk in the top of the pot thats the reason i dont know what my big one from my thread looks like beneath the ground because of the roots that grew there

Yeah, I'm not too concerned either way.

Very nice piece of work. There is a nice bonsai in there just waiting to fill in a little bit. I wouldn't worry much about the Nebari, it will form with time.

Wow, you changed the its look from the Home Depot to the bonsai. We can not underestimate the Home Depot or Lowes's trees!
I really like your style. It looks beautifully and naturally. This one will be a showstopper in the future!

Thank you very much!
They have a dozen or more just like this one, I'd buy em all if I didn't think my wife would kill me. ;)

If your yard is big, you are better to buy them all. You need to convince your wife that this is a good investment and I don't think she will resist! :)

Hey....next time don't come asking about some Damn Apex....

Just finish styling the tree....

THEN post the pictures!

Hahaha....

What did you need...?
some wire and imagination
??

I hope it does well for you!

I want to see this one progress...

Really really nice.
