Wish the article had more details, but it's at least a good starting point.

I'm wondering if anyone has ever used hypertuffa as mortar, and how it held up. Maybe this summer I can experiment with the idea, but it'd be fascinating to see if there's a way to make the tree actually grow from the wall, not just roots sticking through it.

Black locust clump in my neighborhood. I thought yesterday’s fog made a great backdrop.
This is one of my very favorite landscape species. I don’t think they’d take well to bonsai, but just look at those gorgeous round apices! I get to observe this tree from the space where I work my trees in summer, but it’s really special in winter silhouette.

Not often seen, as they're relatively short lived but this Silver Birch definitely counts as a veteran tree

Was driving across western Australia a few weeks ago and they had these gorgeoous pines, which made me stop to take pictures for inspiration!
Twisted, deadwood, perfect canopies and red bark. Bonsai Beauty!
(@Shibui any idea which species this could be?)

Time to reduce the roots by 30% and put it into a rectangular pot with Aakadama, Pumice, and Lava rock.
