We had a light from on Sunday morning. Killing freeze coming this weekend. Have to watch carefully, nighttime temps dipping into the high 20s can be a problem, coupled with daytime highs in the low 50s and you have pots frozen solid in two days...

It's little warmer down here in Central VA. There was no frost this weekend and I think the lows are predicted to be in the high 30s this coming weekend. It won't be long though...

Thanks for the heads up

Don't be fooled. We had frost even though the air temp was 42 or so. Frost was on the eaves and roofs of the house. Dry air and radiational cooling can drop surface temps quickly after sundown, especially early pre-dawn. This isn't really that important if you have only temperate zone trees. It can be murder on tropicals, though.

The deeper cold this coming weekend is different. If we get hard freezes at night and only mid 50s for daytime highs, pots (especially mame and smallish pots) can freeze through. While that might be ok later in the season, it can kill some temperate trees this early. A few lighter frosts and shallower freezes prepare trees for deeper cold. The hard stuff right off the bat isn't good.

Can't say we've had frosts this fall as of yet. My temperate tree is indoors with temps to cold for it...but no frost just cold here at night...and cool days. Fall is here...leaves are changing and it's just in the air.

If the forecasts are correct we should be getting daytime 50f and night time 30f Saturday or thereabouts. We have been at 60's and 40's but sadly it must decline :(

Forecast lows Sat., Sun. and Mon. nights are mid (and possibly low) 30's here in No. Va. That means we could see high 20's in unsheltered areas. Bring more sensitive stuff indoors, borderline trees can go under shelter like the eaves of the roof or a deck. I'm putting my live oak, cedar elm and BC on the ground under my deck (with the possibility of bringing them into the basement if the forecast goes much lower.)

Gotta love this time of year :(

Crap man we had our hottest day ever recorded in the month of October yesterday at 99* I guess nobody told summer to pack it's crap and leave Texas already...

Heard we may get snow here Saturday. Already had a few frosts, little ice on the windshield nothing major.
