I've got 3 thermometers hanging now. In the center of the garage, center of the crawl space and one outside in the shade to have something to compare it to.

First readings were not what I expected.

Outside Temp (in the shade) - 56F/13C
Garage Temp (inside the garage, but garage gets full sun all day) = 68F/20C
Crawl Space (not insulated) = 50F/10C

That's at 15:45 Chicago time.

I'll take an early morning reading pre-dawn before I go to work tomorrow. Probably a good idea to get a range of temps at all times of day.

It is too early to put trees in storage. Ground temperatures have not cooled off yet. I don't usually put my trees into the well house until end of November.
In fact, just about every cultivar can remain outside until daily lows are getting down to -10C (that is, with a 'normal' climate pattern of progressively lower daily/nightly temperatures).

Yep, I gathered that from your post. Thank you sir.

I was just taking another suggestion and have started logging temperatures today just to get an idea of what each area could expect.
