I’ll preface this with a comment that I don’t believe I have found the perfect pairing yet, but here are a bunch I had to choose from. If you were choosing the pot for this ginkgo, which would you pick? Why?

2, feels a little big now but should be fine in leaf. I like the oval shape for this tree. A lot of the other pots feels a tad small or a tad heavy

7 it is, hands down. Rich color helps the bark look better, should also complement the spring/summer foliage, and will be killer with the fall color.

9. I like the power of the trunk in that width and think that the pot color complements the bark well.

6. Yellow rectangle

Because I don't know about pots lol.

But also because the size and shape just looks perfect, and the color reminds me of the fall colors. Obviously you want a complimentary color to make the fall color really pop, but the yellow will let you dream of that fall color all year long.

Second place is #3 Oribe rectangle Koyo.

I've had it in that oval bag in my head for so long now....I decided I can't make it outside of my method, so it is taking longer than I expected, but I intend to still nail that.

Something about that pot you pictured, it has more silence than these, with the strength to hold such a strong, yet feminine tree.

6 and 8. They'd play well with the colors of the leaves through its lifecycle and provide some dramatic heft to the trunk and its chaotic, explosive top

a lot of the others feel too big or too small, and I don't think round would be my preference here.

A lot to choose from. I must be slacking. None stand out to me as a choice. But its a spectacular tree. Will be curious what you choose. Maybe the images just seem...dark. I just can't make a decision.

3 nice glaze will look good with fall foliage.

Good, straight lined form mimics the tree's rather straight growth habit.

Understated, low profile feet.

Detail along rim adds some texture somewhat echoed in the tree's bark.

I don't prefer yellow or bag-shaped pots.

Tough problem you have there, so many great pots, lol. I like 7 the best and think the blues in 3 or 8 would also look really great with the foliage, especially the 3 hours of yellow each year

I agree , keep looking! I would like to see the shape and size of number 8 combined with the color of number seven!
Feel the lip is too heavy on seven and prefer a bit shallower look.
If I had to choose one I would go with #8.
You know, it’s funny because I was wishing I had one the shape and size of 7 with the color of 8!😂

It's a toss up between 3 and 7. The color/glaze is perfect... now you need to decide how masculine a pot the tree will need. Even though I'm a sucker for the bamboo adornment, I'm leaning toward 7 as it's deeper which suits your gingko stylistically and horticulturally.

I think 3 would combine perfectly with the yellow leaves in autumn.

And also because i love that pot. I would put anything in it.

8 for the color. I don’t grow ginkgo though so not sure if the depth is okay or not.

8 feels right in terms of the color. It also seems to compliment the trunks angle just above the rim of the pot. The shape is masculine but feminine enough for a Gingko. Though I wish that pot were just a bit deeper so the tree and pot balance a bit more. Like if it were more at the depth of 7 but the color of 8.

Are you going for contrast with light colored bark 80% of the time or contrast with fall yellow color 20% of the time?
If you go with 4, the black yamato, nice contrast all year. I don’t know if that follows the rules though.
But....good contrast with light bark, lime green foliage and yellow foliage.

I'd go with number 4, not because it's necessarily the perfect pot for the tree, but because it's the perfect tree for the pot. That pot makes a bold statement, and it needs a bold tree to balance it out. Your ginkgo also makes a bold statement, and it can handle the pot. In the alternative, I would vote for 3 or 8. The small, glazed pots complement and emphasize the power of the trunk.

I like 6, assuming it will be a nice contrast with the foliage.. But I dont know what the foliage looks like.
