I was just making the point that making systemic changes is nye on impossible in some situations
It's hard, but it's still worth trying. We're going through a slow-rolling biodiversity crisis and every little bit of native landscaping will help support the ecosystems that sustain us
Simply put, kids want to play on grass, not dirt, and where there's no grass they don't play. Hence my persistence in this tiny 10' x 6' shady patch.
Zero qualms about people keeping some turf grass on their property. It's absolutely useful for kids playing outside, dogs running around, etc. and alternatives like eco grass mixes don't hold up to those uses either. Honestly, your brief descriptions sound like the kind of landscaping that I'd really appreciate. Doing something is always better than doing nothing. This is the kind of landscaping that I'm mostly talking about and the kind of lawn maintenance that Florida's fertilizer bans are deal with -- Perfectly green manicured turf grass to the water's edge. Nothing to catch runoff, and no ecosystem services to be seen

It just didn't come back, and the reseeding didn't take like I'd hoped.
I'll get off my soap box now
