glue for fertilizer cake / crumble

I was just making the point that making systemic changes is nye on impossible in some situations

It's hard, but it's still worth trying. We're going through a slow-rolling biodiversity crisis and every little bit of native landscaping will help support the ecosystems that sustain us

Simply put, kids want to play on grass, not dirt, and where there's no grass they don't play. Hence my persistence in this tiny 10' x 6' shady patch.

Zero qualms about people keeping some turf grass on their property. It's absolutely useful for kids playing outside, dogs running around, etc. and alternatives like eco grass mixes don't hold up to those uses either. Honestly, your brief descriptions sound like the kind of landscaping that I'd really appreciate. Doing something is always better than doing nothing. This is the kind of landscaping that I'm mostly talking about and the kind of lawn maintenance that Florida's fertilizer bans are deal with -- Perfectly green manicured turf grass to the water's edge. Nothing to catch runoff, and no ecosystem services to be seen

It just didn't come back, and the reseeding didn't take like I'd hoped.
💔

I'll get off my soap box now

Yes, that's the sort of thing that annoys me, too. There's just no reason for it. A lawn that looks like a putting green, but no holes, not clubs and no balls. What's the point?

I agree but the point for these is to make sure your house looks more polished than the neighbors and because they can pay a landscaper to do it

I need to make some fertilizer cake or crumble but need it to hold together for 4 months, because of an upcoming fertilizer ban. What would be the least harmful additive, thinking wood glue or natural goo such as chia seed or psyllium husk. Ingredients for cake to be applied now are fertilizer or blood and bone meal. I have urea but don't think that can be used in a lasting cake?

I am actually growing mustard and amaranth for for the Nitrogen and evil Phosphate for use during the summer, you just can't use something with npk numbers on it.
fertilizer ban? and how would homemade fertilizer cakes defeat such a diabolical event?

would molasses attract ants? I'm thinking yes, among other things
Any fertilizer can attract pests of one sort or another, but there's agricultural/horticultural molasses that's processed specifically as a plant nutrient that is less on the sugary side, mitigating that issue considerably.
No clue how that stuff might perform as a binder.

Which I also never understood.

I'm just weird I guess.
Nah, you just dont care about "appearances" and keeping up with the other rich folks around you.
I dont fertilize my lawn or even water it most of the time.
I have really great moss all over the yard until it dries out and turns brown.
