Relatively new (to me) Sharp's Pygmy (SP).

Not sure, so querying here... does this look like a graft to your collective expert eyes?

Just not sure if the change in bark texture/color is normal for a SP on it's own roots (or whether SP are never/never found on their own roots).

You can grow Sharps from cuttings.

Let's see the other side?
From this side I'm gonna say not grafted. I see and take apart 100s of grafts a year from some of the best!
John Tennant couldn't pull one that slick off with a Pygmy.

Not a graft in my opinion. Usually you can clearly spot a V shaped cut or a difference in trunk size, bark color or different marks. None here.
There are also similar circular patterns from growth seasons everywhere.

1498751912427493877786.jpg Doesn't1498752312531-745932558.jpg look like a graft to these old eyes. This discoloration is normal aging of the bark.
The second pic is a graft union. It was smooth and streamline when I got it. The root stock grows faster than the Makawa and the bulge at the union forms.

Thanks for there feedback, mates.

Other side. The partially apparent "V" got me started down this avenue of angst:

Tell me if I'm out of line here, but this tree seems like a prime candidate for ground layering. From what we can see, the nebari doesn't look like anything worth preserving anyhow. Maybe kill 2 birds with 1 stone?

As a little boy I was chasing down a peacock at the Zoo, the poor bird run over my head, neck and back and that's why I'm a weirdo till now...

... giving up hunting:D ...too old to change myself and growing elms indoors...

I killed a truck on Wild Turkey.....;):D:D:D:D:D:D

Don't fear, it was off-road.....and already stuck.....technically you can fix a wayward rod. You know after you fix all the other stuff that's been broken.:(
Can you imagine if we had smart-phones thirty years ago?:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

I'm not saying I choked anybody......... without their consent! Relax everyone, I gave fare-warning....maybe ignore me for the next 150 or so hours.....;):D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

It really looks like it's just barking up to me. In another 10 years the whole trunk will be brown.
