HUGE Ficus microcarpa

Thanks Tom.

The root had to go, and so it went:

Already looks a lot better!

Thanks Alex. I dusted the cut with rooting hormone and placed sphagnum against it, then covered with foil to reflect light. We'll see how it does.

Roots have sprouted from the cut site of that old root:

That's a heck of a nice ficus Ryan. Looking great!

Quite a few more roots than I expected.....

Any thoughts on what could cause the brown spots on the leaves? I thought that normal over/under watered leaves just turned yellow, not yellow with brown spots...

There's nothing in Jerry's book about this? I can take a gander at it later.

Hmm haven't checked, good point.

I took some leaves to the local nursery where they looked at them under a microscope. They told me they spotted some fungal spores and recommended an anti fungal to me to stop the spread, so I bought some (Daconil).

The leaf drop has seemed to have slowed down, and I cut off any bad looking leaves. I noticed there were some scale on some of the branches, so I scraped them off and gave the tree a good soaking in some soap. Thankfully, the tree still is pushing some new growth.

My ficus drop yellow leaves routinely. I think it drops leaves when the branch starts to push out new more efficient leaves.

Leaf drop has seemed to stop, just looking for a good Metal Halide light now...
