Hurricane Florence

Not so sure, they said dawn on Sunday, it’s lunchtime here now. Thought I’d be just north of the danger zone, but seems like I’ll be in it.

That’s going to affect an insane amount of people. I hope they are having evacuations now. Although I wonder where so many people even temporarily relocate to? Do keep us updated, it’s alwasy best to hear from an insider with type of thing. And please evacuate if you need to, simply not worth the risk.

CNN updated st 4:00 am this morning showing projected path heading towards Macau now, Hong Kong to north of oath with 134 mph winds, which is a Catagory 4 strength. Said winds were still strong 200 miles away in Manila when storm hit The Philippines.
Yeah I watch all the news channels on my phone and only some of them briefly mentioned it. Still, you can’t say that American news sufficiently covers foreign matters. Too focused on what Trump did or didn’t do, and how amazing he is or how retched he is.

Is there any chance it will dramatically weaken like Florence ended up doing? It’s possibke I hope.

The BBC (and the Economist) do a better job covering US news than US news organizations - who today come off (to me) like they are just recycling whatever they read on Twitter.

Back to the subject of the thread... we haven't seen a drop of rain since January(?) Though I appreciate the damage this storm is doing in the East, I wish there was some way to capture some of the water and send it west :(

We had a great monsoon season a good amount of rain but I always pray for more!

Since January? That’s crazy. If only we could send it...

I agree this is not the appropriate thread, but I don’t see why he cannot say whatever he wants on an American website. The USA is, in many respects, a big country and the decisions and actions of North Americans influence the others around. Even those that do not live there. So yes, the ‘others’ are entitled to comment. If you want this forum to be restricted to USA citizens, do so!
Well...I have this to say about the Azores. The country is run by a bunch of social misfits that know nothing of conservatism and harbor the same feelings as communist nations around the world. The people there are ignorant of politics , uneducated or they would revolt. and..... frankly, it adds nothing to the world economy.

How do you feel about that? Feel a little pissed about that? Pretty rude huh?

If this bonsai forum was run out of the Azores, and rude Americans came in everytime there was a disaster and found the need to blame it on it's current president for no other reason than you want to see him removed, you would get pretty tired of it pretty fast. Mind your own business.

Smarten up Gustavo, your more intelligent than this. Remember, best to shut up and be thought the fool than open your mouth and remove all doubt....

Hard to believe that my wish for someones well being could lead to such hatred. :(

Sincerely, deeply sorry for that Judy.

I understand what you feel when you say 'I pray for those who are there', and I do sympathize too, but I hope you understand what I mean: tegretting is one thing, preventing is much better.

But it's not a matter of "us" against the rest of the world, "US" against froggies and the rest of the world, it's just that some are blind to the evidence, and praying won't do anything here in this world.

If there were a god, he/she would like us to take our future in our hands, not lying, ignoring science, and paving the way for more disasters.

Pray? Might as well take a shoot of heroin.

Alternative: learn.

Act for a better world in this world, "god" must be big enough to take care what comes after...

I don't think He/She would welcome anyone that has been an accomplice in the destruction of the planet.

You can not prevent hurricanes, tornados, earthquakes or other natural disasters. And your ignorance about the purpose of prayer and how it works is jarringly self evident. My suggestion to you would be get some education on both fronts before disparaging others.

Florida’s coastline, and much of the Caribbean are littered with shipwrecks dating back to the 16th Century due to hurricanes. All that predated the industrial revolution. El Niño and La Niña seem to be the big influencers.

As a praying man, myself, I pray becsuse God instructed me to.

Neither storm is a joke, and I think everyone agrees this is a messed up situation to be in, facing such a storm 'coming for ya'. I do wish all a safe passing of the storm with lots of candle-light dinners enjoyed with a strong glass of wine. Make the best of it. :(

I wonder if Alain is bitching on a Chinese bonsai forum about their government and the impending typhoon?
Don't want to go too deep into this. I do not like the swing this thread has taken either. Yet, this comment is a little off-sided. Fact is, USA has decided to step out of the Paris climate agreement and is effectively saying, there is no climate change. China has taken the opposite approach and is focussing on getting rid of fossile-fuels, and is actually a global leader in the actions taken to reduce non-renewable energy use. It would have been nice if the USA would have joint hands instead of playing ostrich (After all, why would you NOT change to renewables, irrespective of climate change discussions; I for one prefer clean air).

For the life of me I would actually love to read on how you think climate change has made hurricanes worse when the statistics show over the last 40 years there have been fewer and they have been less intense. How do you explain that?

It hit 60 to 75 miles Southwest of Hong Kong. Winds in Hong Kong were approximately 130 mph. Not sounding good.

First off.
I'm truly sorry to the rest of the world for the way the United States is screwing up the enviornment.
We were doing good up until 2 years ago.
Then something bad happened here.
Were going to try to fix it in a couple months.
Hang in there.
Were not all raging, religious, racists who dont have educations.

As the OP, I can’t believe how far off the road and into the ditch this thread has gone. I guess it is just my ignorance that leads me to believe people will stay relatively close to the original intent of the thread.

Save me the sanctimonious bullshit, please. Have you ever been to China? Saying that the Chinese are leading the way to "clean air" has got to be one of the most laughable things I've ever read on the internet. I live in the 6th largest metropolitan region in the USA and I'll take the air quality here over any place in China. I wasn't particularly happy either when we pulled out of the Paris Accord, but I doubt it will impact carbon emissions here and world wide significantly. Money will, though. When renewable/green energy becomes more affordable and accessible, it'll replace fossil fuels........ and we will still have devastating hurricanes and typhoons.
