Masterpiece
Just pull it out and try
i got the feeling it will be ok yews are suprisingly tough
i havent tested this theory yet but will do coming spring
i noticed with One of my nursery taxus That when it got potted up by the grower some young braches with foliage went into the soil and grew roots at the end of the branch
so i wonder if you provoke backbudding low at the base of the tree and cover the shoots that wil grow there with soil if they will eventualy become roots
and even if they will would it be enough to keep the tree alive if sawed off bellow
