Japanese black pine seed programing

Growing thousands of these, it gives me more leeway when I repot them annually to bin the ones that don't make the grade, and work to untangle and shape the roots for an improved nebari.
Reminds me of koi breeding. A single adult female koi can spawn 300,000 eggs. By the end of the first year, you may have culled down to 3,000, of which most will go to market as pond koi and you will hold back perhaps 300 as two year potentials. Then at two years you will hold back 30 as future show koi... and end up with 3 champions (if you are lucky).

FWIW - because bright colors and strong patterns are recessive, usually the best koi are going to start out as some of the smallest.

Similarly with bonsai... fast growth does not always yield the best results. What you are looking for is fast DEVELOPMENT - which is a combination of growth and tons of other factors... including human intervention.

Yes, once you perfect the cutting process and have a large mass of roots like this, growth is accelerated, also the substrate, temps and humidity control. Growing thousands of these, it gives me more leeway when I repot them annually to bin the ones that don't make the grade, and work to untangle and shape the roots for an improved nebari. If you look at what happened at Telperion Farms, having more trees than you can care for doesn't do any good when they grow fast. As Macie says, you need to work on controlling the tree from the start.

Nice roots. Did you get roots like thks with just one seedling cutting event or did you do it multiple times?

People are not getting the point, the battery in my car doesn't think, when there is a bigger load, more electrons flow than when there is no load. The trees are no different, I'm across from the ocean, we get a lot of moist wind, my JBP and JRP seedlings grow faster, they transpire more and the movement from the wind builds wood. This is all normal plant science.
I think your seedlings got damping off, did they die from soil level and fall over? Use hydrogen peroxide, I use Daconil because of the large number of seedlings, coat the soil after the seeds are put in and later when they start popping up.
Trees also grow faster in a high CO2 chamber, there were higher levels of CO2 on Earth in the past, why there were huge jungles and animals.
hi, thankx for stopping by, ok, your car battery is not alive, its a part of a whole... the ECU is the brain, it store the how to, telling the other parts how, and when to do things. but still its not a life force, not alive thing...you are the life force, you turn the key and started the car, you put it in drive and move the car,, etc, etc, etc,,,
a seed have a life force built in....if not then why do plant die... its not like a rock, rolling down the hill, due to the wind,,,,, We know what it take to grown great big trees and what they need to do so....I'm just saying that there are other ways of doing it....

I see now some people here don't like the word "programing"... so lets say its "Selected method by the use of specific technique for desirable out come".... how's that's....

hi, thankx for getting on the bus.....yes that what i'm trying to say" fast development" to shorten the time...so we can enjoy it longer...
ps... you can grow koi faster to ... with strong moving water and more feeding.... the more they move more they eat, the more they grow...

Here you go, if you want to seed up the process.

Dropping a wealth of knowledge on you here. You can thank me later.

What did you think I did, its snowing here still in RI...but you see the seedling in the green. how do you think that happen, outside or inside....
any way, thank you for sharing...

Yes, I know, I was with her last night..... the next time you see her, she'll tell you to call me "dad".......are we at the Mother thing now... i mean really, that's what you what to start.... thankx for your two cents.... now please get off the bus, I'm not stopping , you'll just have to jump for it.... go water your trees...
You're screwing your own mom? Weird.

If your seedling doesn't look like this

In less than 6 months!

I don't know what you did, but its not what @leatherback just kindly layed right in front of you, take a leaf out your own book and LISTEN to others, you too may learn something, the post he just shared is literally the cheat codes to what you are trying to achieve, with progress pics and evidence throughout.

It took you til now (post#63) to see 'programming' is problematic when it was literally brought up in post #2 and multiple times since!

I’m one of the people who absorbed a lot of the material after the fire and I’m still cussing under my breath when repotting some of these :)

Having done the initial repot on several pines sourced from Telperion, I can agree that there might be a few unwanted surprises beneath the soil surface of the grow bag. Still, I envy your access to what remains of their stock. I'd gladly wrestle with a few more of these raw trees if I could!

I'm not talking about the car, I am only concentrating on the battery, it has set chemicals and metals that react and store electrons, trees have chemicals and carbon surfaces that react the same way, why you can graft a new branch on the tree. The seed is the mix of these components and it comes from the parent trees. If you cut off a branch and root it, I do hundreds, the tree will grow with many of the same traits, no seed involved.

This was only 1 cutting when the first true needles start emerging or when it turns reddish.
