Bonsai Nut
Nuttier than your average Nut
Reminds me of koi breeding. A single adult female koi can spawn 300,000 eggs. By the end of the first year, you may have culled down to 3,000, of which most will go to market as pond koi and you will hold back perhaps 300 as two year potentials. Then at two years you will hold back 30 as future show koi... and end up with 3 champions (if you are lucky).Growing thousands of these, it gives me more leeway when I repot them annually to bin the ones that don't make the grade, and work to untangle and shape the roots for an improved nebari.
FWIW - because bright colors and strong patterns are recessive, usually the best koi are going to start out as some of the smallest.
Similarly with bonsai... fast growth does not always yield the best results. What you are looking for is fast DEVELOPMENT - which is a combination of growth and tons of other factors... including human intervention.
