Marco Invernizzi's new tool - "Ichiban"

Depends on how far back you're standing and what kind of pots we're talking about.

I've got tokoname pots that are abysmal--the glaze on one faded (extremely unevenly) in a year, drainage holes in others are in the wrong place and/or too small or both, etc. I've also got Korean, Chinese, US, UK and German pots that are equal to most of the Tokonameware out there.

I've also got crappy Korean and chinese pots that wouldn't be mistaken for Tokoname from a mile off.

Don't rely on name alone to ensure quality. It helps to actually see alot of examples like pots and tools to see what IS quality.

Price can be a signal of quality. It can also signify nothing.

Tokonama is an area with a lot of potters, you have to know which ones are the good ones and which are the crappy ones.

keep it green,

Very true Harry...and trying to comape tools to pottery is like comparing apples to oranges.

The quality of the newer Chinese pots are getting very good. I do have some $2500+ trees that are in $100 Chinese pots... Nothing wrong with that unless you are trying to win Kokofu or something like that. :D:cool:

Come on Jase, set a Chinese pot down on a flat surface and if it doesn't wobble, I'll buy you a steak and if the bottom is not convexed, I'll throw in a baked potato.......;)

Your friend Harry

...and if the drainage and wire holes are in the proper spot will ya throw in the sour cream and chives?

You do realize that a fair percentage of the pots at Kokufu are Chinese pots, right?

Yeah, I like to buy all the Chinese products I can, they have a record of producing high quality merchandise. Never been to Kokufu and picked up any of their trees and looked for a familiar chop.

... like any other country there is good, excellent and junk, depending on the region.

Question, what good comes out of China, I can be pretty sure it's not dog food.

I could buy 7 $50 shears and cut wire with them till the cows come home for $350. I would likely not wear them out or loose all of them before I would wear out or loose one $350 tool. Having a chisel that is at something close to a 90° angle from the handle is as close to useless as I have ever seen in a woodworking tool.

Fascinating how this conversation has wandered all over the map like a National Lampoons Vacation. China... Japan... Italy... Oklahoma.... ;)

This tool is overpriced... but people like things like that. They are a status symbol maybe... who knows. Their is no data, and will not be, to sufficiently argue they are better than using a good pair of 20 dollar garden shears. Because no kidding... (mind you I don't believe in concave cutters to begin with, but...) there is no task I can't use them for... I even use them as pliers when the need arises.

But hey... I have a Coach bag or three... So I am not judging. :D:p:cool: It just has no place on my fiscal priority list. If you are someone like Harry... then you don't have to prioritize the list so much... and that must be nice.

And yes... I have a 2k tree in a $50 pot. I love it too.... But I also have pots that cost more than those shears... the only thing I try not to own when it comes to pots is ugly ones... but I've got a few of those dispite my best attempts. lol

Along with Eric (ang3lfir3)... As someone who works on a collection of trees valued around a million... I promise you they are no worse for wear for being worked on with our $20 shears.

And shohinkid... Just so you don't get confused, let me say... I'm not stupid either.

Kindest regards to all,

Victrinia

If you don't like it than don't buy it, but you are stupid to say it is overpriced. You get what you pay for, and this tool is certainly a good investment to your collection.

This is well thought out. But then after doing bonsai for a whole year, he would know better than others.

I feel these Italian Tongs are copied from some medieval torturers kitbag.

It's only the red bead that diverts the eye.

Even the infernal devices of those days would have some ornamentation, such as a few inscribed words of piety.

Just curious Klytus, do you do bonsai or just have an opinion about everything else........

What would you do with this Ponderosa ?
Or you could show me some of you creations instead if you wish, maybe something you bought that someone else did like I do.

keep it green,
Harry

Yes but the best one has the "stand up" feature and the Amazingly patented "zipper" function at no additional cost.

Unlike these shears?pruners? (WTF _is_ this thing anyway?) your bags at least serve a function and won't end up as just decorations or at the bottom of some tool box unused.... btw anyone consider that the now angled handle design makes them nearly impossible to roll in a tool roll? I use my tool roll to hold more than just the tools this thing is supposed to replace.

oh and Harry you owe me a steak with a baked potato ... with sour cream and chives...

Let Marco style it and try to keep it healthy.

keep it green,
Harry

damnit... I was hoping you would have a vision for it.... or OMG shock and awe... have someone else in the massive list of bonsai artists in the world, let alone the US, work on it. But you aren't biased or anything... ;)
