New to bonsai! Purchased a Chinese Elm.

Hello all,

On Nov 4th I purchased a Chinese Elm which will be my first ever bonsai.



This was right after potting it.

My setup is indoors with 2 SANSI lightbulbs providing about 1800-2400 FC of light to the leaves. I believe this is on the low end, but I think the tree is taking to it and is adapting nicely and is the best I can do unless I buy some bigger grow lights.

Its been a little over a week since having him (Elmin) and he lost a couple of leaves through stress and there are still a couple that are yellow but I am happy with the progress and am excited to interact with everybody on here to learn more!

Haha yea! When I feel the tree is a bit stronger I may start putting the pot outside during the summer. I had a friend who had his snap from squirrels and I am worried.

Just realize it may be harder to get it stronger indoors. They evolved over millions of years to live outside.

We all have to deal with squirrels. I have some wire mesh around a few of my trees that I don't want the squirrels going nuts on.
