Newbie here!! Prostrata triple trunk Juniper

Hello all, newbie here. Been in and out of bonsai thru the years, at one time had about 45 trees, do to a illness I was forced to get out of Bonsai for awhile. Well now i am doing better and slowly getting back into it. here is a tree I acquired, it was basically a big bush when I got it, after a ton of work ,it is starting to come together, one more growing season and a new pot...it should be nice!! 1st picture was after many hours of thinning and wiring. 2nd pic is about 8 more hours of wiring, thinning, and carving of deadwood and cleaning of the trunk!!

Rather fantastic tree for a self proclaimed newbie...

Can't wait to see that bad boy in a smaller pot. It's a killer tree, different (and difficult to execute) form. The awesome thing is that it's large enough the prostrata foliage looks totally fine.

I might remove a few branches here or there in the future but you've done a beautiful detailed job

Nice work, hope to see more of your "bushes". ;)
 
Nice job. I guess you learned a few things during your in and out periods.

Junipers will not grow indoors.

This tree looks familiar, are you located in MA? There was a similar juniper I almost got at NE Bonsai this fall.
 
I would say keep it, can always ditch it later. Needs a much smaller maybe round pot. Like your branch selection and foliage reduction looks very harmonious and balanced. Needs some wire and it will be top notch
 
I like the lower branch, it's what makes this a unique tree. Too much (I think) we gravitate toward taking anything unusual looking off, so we don't distract from the image. But if it's done well, I think it's what makes this tree different from the rest. And this is done well.

I agree with Judy- this is what gives this tree character.
 
Nice tree.

If this is mine, I will most likely remove the lowest branch and slowly reduce the pot. Very personal choice so it really is up to you.

You know, I thought you looked familiar as well. I work there on the weekends, and I helped you pick out a big needle juniper a few months ago too.

I decided to buy a Japanese maple instead, but thought this clump had good potential. You've done much better with it than I, I like what you've done with it. A slightly smaller (ceramic) pot one day and I'd leave that lower trunk as well.

Yes I remember you now!!!...the Procumbens juniper is another one in question, not sure if I should make into a semi-cascade or just remove the lower branch all together. Will try to post some pics!!

Here is the Procumbens, cleaned up a bit and removed some of the lower branching. Should I make it into a semi-cascade or no? Trunk was also cleaned and treated and some jin made and ready for carving in the Spring!! Would you guys do any Shari on this tree?

First of all, you're definitely not a newbie. Both trees look great under your care. I do think that lower branch probably should be jinned because it's not really cohesive with the rest of the tree. As far as Shari, I always like shari on a juniper. Keep up the good work and hope to see you around at the nursery.
 
Great trees. Start a new thread for the second one so you can update progressions on each throughout the year/years.
