Not my fault :)

I try to run the minimal ads to cover site costs. Some years I come out ahead, some years not. But that is MUCH better than the first ten years of the site...
I think we all greatly appreciate this! I'm sure if made the donation link a bit more prominent and perhaps had occasional requests, you'd get an outpouring of support. The thank you email was really lovely too.

It has been a labor of love. I created the site originally because my personal life was so busy it was difficult for me to join a bonsai society or travel to many shows. Also, I got frustrated with many bonsai sites that would come and go over the years... losing tons of valuable content. I wanted to create a site that would become an archive.... and that would have the financial backing to not disappear on a whim. So yes, I could have personally covered the $600 upcharge due to the recent upgrades. I would have done it happily because I love you all :) But the fact that people are pitching in is like someone buying you a free beer. You don't need it, you don't expect it... but it sure is nice when it happens.

FWIW the site was doing really well in 2020 during the pandemic. I guess y'all were staying home working on your trees. But since then, ad rates have dropped 50%. So you take the good with the bad. I try to run the minimal ads to cover site costs. Some years I come out ahead, some years not. But that is MUCH better than the first ten years of the site...

And like I said, I can afford it if necessary. So the site will never go anywhere while I am around.
That’s what makes this site so unique, compared to basically any source and every forum I know. If I used this site when I first started, It would’ve helped so much. I use this site as my main source of info, projects, advice and other stuff. Bnut is a true archive; I always go back at older threads on this site, some older than I am, completely untouched since they were posted, besides for the occasional reply from sorce later on. I love your site so much and it’s truly helped me and is helping me in my bonsai journey. Biggest thanks for this site, and you. Its helped so many people and is a gigantic contribution to the bonsai community as a whole. I’d donate if I didn’t buy an Andy smith spruce before this happened.

I would think this could help you a lot indeed.

Not sure what the bills are but I would think this forum has a core of maybe 100 persons that check the site pretty much daily. If each of those persons would pitch in say S10,= each year, you would have a large chunk of the running costs covered (?). And several members would be happy to contribute more.
