A little biography:
Dee has studied under many teachers in China, Canada, and the U.S. The Master Artist that has the most influence on her work is Lok Tok. She continues to study with him and has since 1988. Lok Tok’s art background is diverse but he is best known for his HORSES. One of Lok Tok’s teachers is China’s most famous horse painter—Xu Beihong.
Dee’s Asian name is Ding Teller – which means “Happy Teacher.”
In 1992 Dee was invited by China’s Ministry of Culture to be in an international competition. She won third place in the world out of 6,000 contestants from 16 countries.
She is the only non-Asian artist with work and honors in “An Album of Selected Paintings by the 20th Century Outstanding Chinese Artists.”
She was the Asian Painter/Calligrapher for China Family Day at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts 2005 & 2002.
Dee was one of the top five artists in Southern Minnesota in 2003 and participated in the Minneapolis Foundation Show in the IDS Tower with other well known Minnesota Artists.
Dee, along with artist friend, Dong Feng Li, co-lead and taught a group of 15 artists all over China for 24 days in 2009. Some of the highlights included teaching on a cruise ship on the Yangtze River, in the fog of scenic Yellow Mountain, and by a waterfall in Xian, the city famous for their buried terra cotta warriors and horses. While she was there, she also taught in Hangzhou – the city where she studied at an Art Academy in 1987.
