Nice haul Brian.....makes me want to visit my in-laws in Piedmont:eek: Kinda looks like the little River Canyon area.

Here is the 64,000 dollar question...with the truck in the car wash were you bare rooting or cleaning the truck:p

Thanks for sharing ..great images of what was obviously a great day.

Thanks Tom, not sure where little River Canyon was, but we did get lucky on our sites. The car wash: Neither...just keeping 'em wet...had a 14 hour drive home...

Here are a few more...

Can you tell us about the green tags?

Victrinia

Yeah, you can only dig up the ones that have them....

Actually, they are permits to collect. Since we were in National Forest, you have to buy in advance and tag them before loading.

The site won't let me say just WOW which would be an understatement I guess, NICCCCCCCCCe.

Ryan you do, just a slightly different varieties. I know, wish I could take a collecting trip or three thru there myself.

This is incredbile material... Going to make it kind of difficult to stare at it all the time for the next 1-2years until it is ready to be worked..

Not at all. I have patience like a monk...and...uh...more honestly, I left them all at my buddy's house up in Iowa, so I probably won't even see them again for a year. They're in great hands...just not mine yet; maybe in fall '11 or '12. Figured they'd acclimate better there than in B'ham.

I'm loading more photos up on my website, should be easier to see them here:

Enjoy!

Brian,

How did you get the permits to collect in the National Forest? Is it a process that you have to plan for and get permission far in advance or was it a simple procedure?

Thanks,
Jeff

@ Rob: you are 100% right...which is why I took so many photos, and even video of the trees. They'll be mentally styled by the time they're ready!

@ Jeff:the permits are "Forest Products Removal Permits" and you can get them at the US Dept. of Agriculture - Forest Service. Basically, any national forest office will sell them for the national forest they support.

You can walk in and buy them. Some regulations exist...personal use only for anything up to 6' tall, 10 permits per person, and it's only for the national forest, so you have to be sure you're obtaining trees from the forest and not on private land. Also, you have to be over 21, and a US citizen...of course that doesn't seem to matter much these days...

Wow!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, you kind of feel like you're getting away with something hauling out a several hundred year-old juniper for $5.00.

Oh my God..............5 bucks............. If that thing was in a nursery as pre stock it would be like $700 plus......... I see yamadori half that size and with probably not as much potential for upwards around $300 in the nurseries...
