The birds, at least, are smart enough to get over their fear of the discs. I hung some on my trees and it worked for about two weeks. Now, they sometimes get under the insect screen I had to put over the moss and rip a piece out.

Hmm... I got dumb birds here, I hope.
I do have window screen over my trees that are in nursery soil, they get torn up otherwise.
My inorganic pots rarely get messed with.
